I have looked into it, I spoke to Edmonton police and they along with Calgary won't be recruiting internationally for the foreseeable future which isn't the best news...

You say "most" Canadian police forces require PR status to apply.. Are you aware of ant that don't require it?....

When my wife had a job offer in 08 through pnp. I had a form in to EPS at the time. They were at the tail end of recruiting internationals... but the whole thing was scrapped due to recession. Just rotten timing and bad luck!

As you, the PR status us what I would like. As a firefighter at the moment I can't even pursue / continue this career until I get pr....

So youre obviously happy to give up the 'security' of the job here... what is it about canada that makes you want to go?
Or should I say what about the UK thar makes you want to leave?!

Ah you're a cop too! ;-) Yeah we kind of missed the boat with that one. It was my original plan to transfer and then they changed the rules!

Re the whole qualification thing, even though I didn't have to, I actually did send all my educational certs to IQAS for assessment re a previous move to canada plan. It was slightly out of date and missing a degree but I do feel like it might have helped my application as I didn't have a great deal of experience in the category I actually applied under. I guess it just makes it easier for them to assess you against canadian standards. It definitely wouldn't be a bad idea for your wife to send everything to IQAS.

Good luck with your application and hope your category comes up! :-)) I'm sure you'll have an easier time than the rest of us 2010 FSW 1 applicants! ;-)

Alcat - I went to Canada in 2005 for almost a year and loved it... I don't like the way we are being treated in my job at the moment, I hate paying through the nose for everything and just feel the country is in such a decline right now, Canada is such a fantastic place from my experiences, I know the grass isn't always green but some things you have to give a try!

kat - I'll have a look into the IQAS I think - thanks!
