If there any indication posted on the website that the information you see is accurate for the 2012/13 season (for want of a better term)?
I'd hate to take a look, think all is okay, seal the envelope, only to have it change the second after I shut down the computer.

Hello all... My girlfriend is a Social Worker (Team Manager), we are considering applying this year if it is still on NOC, I am very new to BE, anyone know how long they have been after Social Workers, gives an idea if it will continue... It's a shame Calgary and Edmonton have put their IR for Police on hold as I would have applied for that...

What doesn't help is the fact that July 1st is a Sunday, and I think the Monday is a bank holiday in Canada (?). The cautious person in me wouldn't guarantee the rules are published and up to date until the end of the Canadian working day on Tuesday3rd July!
Seems like a risk to post off your application before then.
Anyone have a comment about how the weekend and bank holiday will effect the publishing of the new list and any updated rules/forms?

Yep, it's Canada day so CIC will be closed. But it would be highly unlikely that they'll announce things that late - remember last time they announced the changes on the 25th June, giving people nearly a week before the new quota/rules started on 1st July. If they're going to do major changes i.e. changing the list or the points system, then I'm sure they'll do it at the end of June or possibly even before.

Sometimes I automatically switch to the 'plan for the worst, hope for the best' mindset.
In this case when I thought about the worst and included the quota for the Nursing NOC filling up quickly, my plans weren't looking too concrete.
Then again, I guess (for me and my wife) the actual worst would be the nursing NOC removed from the list, then we would be back to where we were this time last year with me starting to look for IT jobs on a TWP. Eeek, such thoughts are making me dizzy

Ta da - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/departm...ce-changes.asp What date did you apply under 3152, was it quite a while after that?

Very soon after that and we were binned out, full. Though the list showed vacancies until Oct. Thank you.

If you are considering applying, then do get everything sorted so that you're ready to send it asap after 1st July if it is still on 'the list'. The key thing is to get her IELTS booked, as it can take a couple of months to get a test slot. Social Workers have only been on the list since 26th June 2010, the last time it was changed, if that helps at all.
Nope. It's accurate as of today, but they could change it anytime. Just keep an eye on the CIC website.

Just remembered something that may help/hinder 2012ers.
There has been mention of credentials assessment/translation into canadian.
So maybe qualifications etc will have to be assessed prior to you submitting your application?

So what kind of 'assessment' is there talk of being required? Where exactly do people hear these rumours anyway.....on the cic website?
... So just to confirm, the cic offices are definitely closed on Monday 2nd of July.(Canada day being Sun 1st) ? ? Again, can anyone post a link showing this is the case?... not that I dont believe fellow expatters!

Cheers

We are headed out to Alberta in November, going to Calgary and planning to drive north to Edmonton to check it out there too, seriously looking into the possibility of the OH looking for a job and going down the sponsored PNP side if that's possible, anyone have any idea on how realistic that idea is??!!

What kind of work does your OH do?
My wife was once offered a job through the pnp back in 2008, but fell through...

We have thought of pursuing this route again, but the downside would be that I / we would not have permanent residence status for 2 years or so?
And that would rule me out of applying for certain jobs.

It's only 'proposed' at the moment. I guess we'll know when CIC does their 2012 update.

It's not all bad news though. The minister is also 'proposing' a speedier path to PR for CEC'ers:

She works in social work management, so although we could go down the FSW route I think we'd stand a better chance maybe with PNP, as you say though, which I didn't realise, I wouldn't qualify for PR then so that's a downfall, is that definite? I'm a police officer so that would rule me out of going into that for a while!!

Have you taken the AINP self assessment tool? Police Officer is NOC code 4311. Most Police forces in Canada require a minimum of PR status. Calgary Police Services did recruit from the UK at one stage I believe via the AINP route.
