I agree with YYZ. A TWP should cost you $150 in total - not a cent more. And it's only a 2 page form so hardly a lot of hassle or paperwork to fill in to get one. So what exactly are they proposing to charge you for??

I suspect they know it's illegal for them to charge you to find a job, so wrap in up in some other fees.

Bear in mind that carpenters in particular, seem to find it easy to get a job in Canada and there are lots on this forum that have done it themselves.

By all means go to the seminar and make up your own mind but I would make sure you ask for a fee breakdown to see exactly what you're being charged for.

Law says that job seeker cannot be charged either directly or indirectly for job search, assistance in job search or any information about available job vacancies or employers seeking workers.

"Wrapping it in some other fees" is an indirect charging, it is illegal.

Thanks for all the advice

The letter says 'Our fee to you is for processing and securing you the 2-year temporary work permit confirmation through the Government of Canada....There is no charge for securing you employment'

And that is the con as there is NO fee to secure you the 2-year temporary work permit confirmation through the Government of Canada.

Apart from the $150 YOU MUST pay the immigration officer at the border to get your work permit.

So no matter how they write it, they are still braking the law and conning you in the process.
