Coincidentally, my council tax bill arrived on Wednesday, just over 6,000ft for the year and we can pay in two installments if required.

Wonderful - for a quite normal house in the UK that bill could be 660,000HUF - ok payable in 10 equal installments !

Is it all gone now?

Mine is only 3000 Ft for the normal Council Tax but there is an additional bill for 11,400 Ft for the local car tax.

The drifts are still there - just leaving to attempt the journey into town but doubt I will get there as I'm a wimp driving in snow and will freak out at the first patch of ice. Kids have been up the village and reported every patch of inch more than an inch thick. so I have an "ice map" for the village now

Worried it might go up next year as the village just won a 50 million ft for village development projects and we are hoping part of it will pay for a new road - we might then need to pay 7,000ft next year

Yes, it is instead of the UK Road Fund Licence but if you use motorways you also need a vignette. My little 700cc car would be quite cheap to tax in UK and in fact last year it probably cost me more overall here than it would there as I bought a 12 month vignette. This year I've not bothered with the vignette and will probably stick mainly to non motorways and just buy a short duration vignette for any long distances I might need to do such as going to Budapest.
Car insurance is also cheaper here but used cars and car spares are more expensive than UK.

Wait all winter for the start of the new F1 season, and it is postponed till tomorrow because of rain!
so even Australia has bad days!
