Re: Land/Plot measurements
Thanks for this!
These measurements were abolished 150 years ago - nice to read about them again.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungar...of_measurement
Totally OT:
Reminds me of the different gallons - British and US ...
I've often speculated about this - how could the US gallon be less than the Imperial?
Trump should have had the slogan:
MAGGA
Make the American Gallon Greater again!
Now it's too late ...

I'm Wolfi will know the answer to this.
I think öl is from the german language. I'm now confused because I think a singular öl is öls and plural öle.
I will let you know if my German teaching sister-in-law can shred some light on this.
So for öl it's 1 öls, and any more it's 2 öle, 3 öle, etc.
Interesting reading about the old measurements.

One I found particularly interesting was
One arsin was equal to 23.01084 in
Hmm - how wide are you when you sit down ??
And
lépés – Step, 3 láb, 94.8243 cm (3.11103 ft)
Of course today a hosszú lépés is 2/3 soda water and 1/3 wine

Re: Land/Plot measurements
Old measures were often similar, based on human anatomy eg foot = Fuß ...
But Hungarian öl seems to be totally different from German Öl (oil), found an interesting site:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%B6l#Etymology_1
PS:
my wife just told me the other definition - as a verb öl means to slaughter.
