Iv'e finally given up waiting, I agree with comments above I aswell have bought a holiday home on Balaton and used to be a regular traveller from Stansted to Balaton, then used Bristol to Budapest as this was more convenient for me ,as I live in Wales, unfortunately i have now had to book Wizz air from Luton for July and August and now have to book a flight for June so again its going to have to be Easyjet or Wizzair as they are cheaper than BritishAirways and Malev .I was really hoping Ryanair would have sorted something out.

Ryanair appears to be holding out for a better deal or in the hope that an offer will be forthcoming from Budapest. Otherwise why, when an agreement was made, have they not finalised it.
Might be worth flooding SCD with emails asking them to consider approaching Easyjet or Wizzair?

Website is finally live - going to take a look
http://www.flybalaton.com/
Surprise, surprise - English version isn't live - maybe in 12 months time
OFGS - this just becomes more ridiculous by the day...... It isn't even a website but a jpg image as a holding page - totally unprofessional. Is there really any hope for this airport?

Hello Jacky,
I don't know which part of Wales you're in, but when travelling to the UK we go to mid Wales and we prefer to travel to Manchester where Jet2.com fly to Budapest every day in the summer, in the winter they travel 3 or 4 days a week. They are also a low cost airline
If you're in South Wales, London is probably better!!

Hi Cheryl, Im from Cardiff, so probably London is now the nearest and cheapest. I've already booked Wizz air from Luton in July, and only this week i have booked Easy jet from Luton in June.I've never flown from Luton before but theres allways a first time , Im just hoping that in the future flights will resume to Fly balaton or Budapest from hopefully Bristol. But if the Hungarian Tourist Board can't be bothered to promote the Balaton then I don't hold out much hope, I can't even find package holidays online that go there, when advising friends it's a beautiful area to go to.
Well, they get the Dutch & Swedes coming by car, maybe they are satisfied with that.

As you said a holding page, not even in German, advising, in English, that "our website will have a new design soon".

There are good coach connections from Budapest down the lake coastline, and a reasonable taxi service as well I believe. Or a one way car hire with Fox Autorent?

Its fine we use this route all the time at the moment but were living in hope that Balaton Airport would reopen - we used to use that all the time till Ryanair pulled out....since then we have travelled from Budapest many times and are users of Fox Autorent.
Thanks

Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can tell me how much was Fox charging for one what rental when you rented last time?
I have been renting a car for the duration of our stay but it is getting too expensive. I wonder if I could do it this way.
Many thanks.

Yes, I'm told Hungary is one of the most expensive countries in the world to hire a car.

When I used to fly to Sarmellek, which was about 10-15 minutes drive (Hungarian speed limits!) to my place, I had a really good relationship with the Hertz Rent-a-Car in Heviz (they had a stand at the airport also).
For about 2 years I used to arrive every month for 3-4 days. I used to rent a Suzuki Swift for FT5500 per day. They were excellent. Back in 2008 I contacted them as I was boarding the plane in Stansted asking for a vehicle high off the road for more straight-backed seating position (I had some back problems following an total idiot ramming my car as I was stationary!). Do you know when I arrived at Fly-Balaton, in the time it took me to fly there from UK, they had a 4x4 brought from Budapest for me! That was customer service. I couldn't fault them, but unfortunately the local/airport authorities and Ryanair pussyfooting around back-handers and arraogance, Hertz wasn't getting enough work to justify the overheads and therefore had to close their office in Airport then Heviz. I am afraid Hertz Ferihegy office doesn't quite measure up to my local chaps.
However, since flying to Budapest I have used autoeurope.co.uk and their local contact collects you from the terminal and takes you to their place which is just across the road from Ferihegy 1 and they are excellent also. I also spoke to them directly and they may be able to give me a better deal than what I pay online. I have already contacted them and will be arriving there in 2-3 weeks, if all works well I will report here accordingly.
We shall see....
