Re: English TV in Hungary
We have a house in Kismaros and will eventually be moving back there from China. Does anyone live nearby? Know about sat reception there?
I have considerable experience with VPNs (living in China, they are essential!) so if anyone needs advice, they can PM me.

We have Astra2A 28.2 East and the BBC hd channels are now weak,I assume this is due to the move. Anyone else experiencing this?

Came across this company for watching UK TV on the internet - you can suscribe monthly, 6 monthly or yearly so might be of interest to those who only stay in Hungary for part of the year: http://www.expattelly.com/

We use a proxy and get the BBC iPlayer, ITV player and 4OD (although no film 4), costs us 45GBP per annum which is ok by me... You could spend a few extra pennies and get a VPN which will be more robust and give you access should you wish it to Love film US OD channels etc etc.

I don't follow it too much as we don't use our satellite much any more but from what I understand the footprint of 2E is the same as 2F however it really comes down to what spotbeam broadcasters use. If they use the tight spotbeam from the UK the only option will be some online tomfoolery

Re: English TV in Hungary
Just got this email reply from a sat installer, as i asked the question regarding Sky in my area (2 hours west of Budapest)
However, as you may be aware, things are changing with UK TV.
The old satellites are being replaced with newer satellites, and so reception is going to change to what it has been like.
To receive the "UK beam" from the first new satellite, Astra 2F, it looks like you need at least a 1.8m dish.
There is a 1.2m dish a few kms west of you, nearer the signal, that does not get any of this UK beam signals at all.
However, the second new satellite, that will be carrying BBC ITVs, has only just launched.
We expect its reception to be similar to Astra 2F, but cannot really say for sure until it is operational.
Regards
