The High Commission has confirmed regarding the lift of the two months gap restriction. The same information is being updated on our website and should be in picture very soon.

Didn`t really answer my question but makes me wonder what plan they are now hatching.
They've probably completely forgotten about the one-month gap between visas, it was scrapped so long ago and was applied in a very patchy manner even when in force.

This has appeared on High Commission of India (London) website.

Tourist Visa Advisory - Re-entry restrictions

This is for information that the restrictions on repeat/consecutive visits into India on a Tourist Visa have been relaxed for foreign nationals. However, there should be a gap of at least 2 months between two visits to India on a Tourist Visa on re-entry of nationals of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, foreigners of Pakistan and Bangladesh origins and Stateless persons.

The visa issued to the applicant will carry an endorsement for restriction on re-entry, if applicable.

This stipulation of two months gap does not apply on any other type of visa, i.e. Business (B) or Entry (X) types of visas. It also does not apply to PIO and OCI card holders.

VFS however, have changed their highly confusing information to an almost equally confusing..............

Re-entry into India within the 2 month restriction for tourist visas
This is for information that restriction of TWO months gap between two visits has been removed by the Government of India from 4th Dec 2012.
In case of requirement to visit India within 2 months, permission should be sought, where applicable, from the High Commission of India, London or the Indian Consulates at Birmingham and Edinburgh directly without going through the outsourcing agency VFS Global (UK) Ltd. Applicant may fill up application from, one photograph, application stating reason for re-entry within two months with supporting documents/travel itinerary etc and a fee of £9/-(Inclusive of £2.00 Consular Charges). Where permission is accorded in such cases, registration with the local FRRO/FRO would be required within 14 days of arrival in India. Request form can be downloaded through the website:
....... with absolutely no reference to what "where applicable" (their bold) might mean.

Idiots.

And if you follow through to the Tourist Visa section (where most travellers will head for) the 2 months out rule is still there, but it will then take you to the nonsense above..............
