For those hoping for a quick clarification of this news, here is a resume of how the 60 day rule was introduced.

26/11/09 60 days out rule officially introduced.

(from now on it is inconsistently enforced in a piecemeal manner)

4/12/09 It first appears on Australia's visa application website, VFS.

(over the next 10 days it appears on German IVAC site and then US Travisa website)

16/12/09 VFS UK deny all knowledge of it.

18/12/09 British tourist reports non-enforcement of the rules.

23/12/09 Times of India reports US & UK governments objecting to the new rules............ to be notified next week

28/12/09 First report of a passport being stamped with the new rules

29/12/09 UK Government issue a statement about the new rules.

30/12/09 VFS UK again deny all knowledge of them

30/12/09 UK Government issue a statement clarifying "all tourist visas"

31/12/09 Indian Government publishes a definitive list of new rules in detail.

3/1/10 VFS UK still has nothing on the website.

3/1/10 Indian Government publishes further clarification

4/1/10 First reply by VFS UK confirming new rules, but still not on website.

6/1/10 First report of info now on HCI website, but still not on the VFS UK site that all applicants must use.

(got fed up with trying to find its first appearance, after wading through 100s of posts)

It was also noticeable how many notable forum members assumed the reason for this restriction to be "visa runs" and abuse by long stay visitors, despite the fact that at no point, ever, has the Indian Government or mainstream media said so. The official line has always been that it was due to Headley (a USA citizen) planning the Mumbai bombings by making repeated visits on a Tourist visa.
Most of these members, who clearly had an "agenda" have now left.

I`ve just been questioned by someone as to whether the 1 month rule between visas still applies.

I am correct in telling them that it was wiped out ages ago aren`t I?????

05 December 2012: All India Visa application centres will remain closed on the 25th December and 26 December , in account of Christmas and Boxing day, respectively.

Important Information

"There has been an alarming rate of increase in a new virus called "Zbot Trojan" which spreads through an email attachment in the form of a PDF file and steals private information from the infected computer. All the applicants are advised to open the attachments received from the trustworthy sources."

Re-entry into India within the 2 month restriction for tourist visas
This is for information that restriction of TWO months gap between two visits has been removed by the Government of India from 4th Dec 2012. This stipulation of two months gap does not apply on any other type of visa, i.e. Business (B) or Entry (X) types of visas. It also does not apply to PIO and OCI card holders.

In case of requirement to visit India within 2 months, permission should be sought, where applicable, from the High Commission of India, London or the Indian Consulates at Birmingham and Edinburgh directly without going through the outsourcing agency VFS Global (UK) Ltd. Applicant may fill up application from, one photograph, application stating reason for re-entry within two months with supporting documents/travel itinerary etc and a fee of £9/-(Inclusive of £2.00 Consular Charges). Where permission is accorded in such cases, registration with the local FRRO/FRO would be required within 14 days of arrival in India.
