well fair do's - the Pakistan gov isn't too keen on the fact that Ali Jinnah was a bit of a piss-ant.

The Joy of Goa www.goanvoice.org.uk

11 Oct: The International News (Pakistan). … The best place to have a holiday in India is Goa. This is because it is cleaner than the rest of India, more polite, the food is excellent and the people are not moralistic. Additionally, because of their experience under Portuguese colonisation, Goans are familiar with Europeans and, unlike other Indians, do not ogle too much at half-dressed women…

Goa set for big spurt in Russian tourists

thanks to www.goanvoice.org.uk

I wonder if the figures quoted are correct,?

I also see they are still blaming the recession for the drop in UK tourism

Not surprising then, that many shacks and restaurants on the coast will be out with bilingual menus to cater to the Russian clientele.

Well lets hope that the shacks are open for the Russian charters when they arrive on the 14th October, or they are going to be disappointed and will not return next season.

Chance will be a fine thing!

The Russian's don't spend much or tip so the shack owners won't be missing out too much.

As long as they have their bottles of booze from the supermarket to swig they won't be too bothered.

I could not believe my eyes when we were having a meal, resturant full
there was a table of 10 Russians, they did not buy any food, only drank Coke
and had their own Vodka. I would have thrown them out if it was my resturant. No manners at all.

The shack lottery is supposed to be later this week so no shacks for the Russians this coming couple of weeks. Some of the restaurants have the menu boards out in Russian but don't suppose anybody will understand what they want when they order from it.

full marks for having the cojones to say it though - I've never before heard anyone in India even try to argue the case for soft drugs.

This is confusing as I read yesterday that Dimitry Medvedev (probably spelt wrong) - the Russian president (& Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's puppet) has said that the Russian economy will contract by 7.5% in 2009 - which is a big amount. If the Rouble has devalued as well & the Russian stock market has had large falls, where are all this increased number of Russians getting their money from to make what even for them cannot be an inexpensive trip to Goa.

In the past some Russians have only gone to Goa for a week's duration and even then when they get there they live on a shoe string spending as least at possible. I doubt if the Goan tourist trade will pick up the slack from these people as reported in the media.

This guy was probably high, when mentioning the legalisation of soft drugs!

Let's stop berating the Russian's for their cultural differences, I have met many good Russians out in Goa! Incidentally, while out in Goa this season, observe how self-contained they are within their own group setting!
