OH! Bipat - you do take things personally .

Living in our country they should live by our rules, and love their neighbours.

Noni, do you ever actually read my posts???? I was saying just that.

(But it is their country also and the 'rules' are therefore theirs too).

To quote myself ---- "caste discrimination is illegal in India, it should be illegal in the UK also"

Hello Andy

You are not butting in, you are posting your views in a civil manner so thats fine, unlike other posts I have seen on here.

I am not a lawyer and I go by professional advise given by Lawyers I trust, so thanks but I'd much rather go by that than the thousands of posts you refer to. Obviously those posts have not helped those people who really did need that advise at the right time. Besides, my lawyers have checked with the RBI as well so the info is right according them. But if you choose to go by the info you have, thats fine. Good Luck.

Cheers

Homosexuality is illegal still in a lot of countries..........should it be here?

Unmarried men and women associating with each other is illegal in a lot of countries ........... should it be here?

Consumption of alcohol in any form is illegal in a lot of countries ........... should it be here?

Speaking your mind is illegal in a lot of countries ........... should it be here?

Possession and carrying of firearms is legal in many countries....... should it be here?

Child marriage is still legal in many countries....... should it be here?

Animal sacrifice is still legal, and encouraged, in many countries....... should it be here?

Oppression of women is still legal, and encouraged, in many countries....... should it be here?

And I haven't even mentioned the "M" word, even though it is prominent in most of the questions above

Oh and by the way, casteism is completely prevalent in Goa, including amongst the catholics............. yet another case of the government of india gobbing off and doing absolutely zilch.

Yes I do read your posts, but they do not live by the rules in either their country or ours, and in their own way are "racist!

I am at a loss to understand your post quoting a part of mine ?????

Noni posted the newspaper report that "caste discrimination was to be outlawed in UK by the Equality Act"
I agreed, but pointed out enforcement would be a different issue as it is in India.
Noni seemed to misunderstand and think I was somehow against this!!!!
I pointed out that I actually agreed with her.
Now you have quoted me with your above post.

Can you explain. Do you disagree with Noni and myself? What is the 'M' word?

Who do you mean by "they" Noni, I hope you are not generalising about an entire nationality or previous nationality or even a majority, whichever country they belong to India or UK.
Of course in every country there are people who do not live by 'rules'.

Yes, I do mean the Indians, it is their culture - Caste System.
of course, not all - the higher caste they are the worse they are about the system.

Of course Noni the caste system is an historical fact and peoples names can indicate their original job descriptions. The "untouchables" were originally so because they dealt with excrement and were therefore likely to pass infection.
To discriminate on caste grounds is now illegal in India but of course it still exists.
I must bow to your knowledge of Indian people in general as to how prevalent caste/class discrimination is now in the country.

The entry tax system though punishes all, including genuine traders, travellers to the South and --- the sensible types who will find their evening trips to Palolem for dinner more expensive!!!!!

Bipat if you enter Goa and leave again within 4 hrs you can claim your money back!

Briefly: Visited an Indian friend. Invited the taxi driver into the house. He refused food and water. Prepared by lower caste, he said later.

Even among catholics it prevails.

Some time back, Sikhs refused to wear helmets while riding motor bikes, in the UK, claiming their turban was of religious significance. How did that one end?

Namaste? Not to touch lower caste?

On a lighter note, Indian manned sun expedition going at night!!!

Davie.

Of course caste and class discrimination still exists among many, usually less educated people, (and in India there are a lot of all sorts of people, with a billion population).
Though to base an opinion of contempt of an entire nationality (previous poster) on relatively little experience raises questions.
Goa is a unique state in many ways (not just the alcohol), no personal close experience of the Catholic population but Hindus tend to be stricter than elsewhere. (Although obviously not all of them).

Namaste originated actually to avoid infection from anyone (no antibiotics thousands of years ago).

Sikhs and turbans, just a fuss (again by just a few), many Sikhs don't wear turbans and sportsmen seem happy with just a cloth covering.
Law regarding motorcycle helmets does apply to all in UK.

Yes I read that (entry tax not yet functioning at Karwar border). Wouldn't want to spend the evening counting the time!!!
Actually I'm exaggerating we will still go when we want, not that 'skinflint'.
