India liberalises visa rules for Russian citizens

25 Jun: Domain-B (India). India has relaxed visa rules for Russian citizens visiting the country for business purposes or as tourists, by allowing multiple-entry on a one-year visa… “We are now issuing multi-entry business visas valid for one year against six months single or double entry in the past and tourist visas valid for six months with multiple entries," Ajai Malhotra, India's Ambassador to Russia, said… .



Goa tourism hails relaxation in visa norms

25 Jun: IBNS. New norms will allow multiple entry visas wherein a tourist can stay in India for 180 days. Previously these were only single entry with a minimum gap of two months before re-entry. With the new visa norm, while Russian tourist visa will be doubled from three months to six months, the UK tourist visa will now be extended to 12 months from a strict period of 6 months.

So we can come and stay for 12 months then???????????

The tourism industry said two others requests in the same proposal are yet to be take care of.
Other requests include a mandatory rider for foreigners on a tourist visa travelling to India that asked to maintain two-month gap before they can re-enter the country, be dropped.
“The existing rules affect the long stayers from Western Europe who prefer to spend their entire winter in sunny Goa. Maybe a relaxation is possible for friendly European countries as it will reduce half of the problem so that they don’t apply for the visa again to re-enter here till their validity of the visa,” Tourism Director Swapnil Naik said.
As a security measure, the central government had issued stringent visa norms for tourists coming to India. Accordingly, foreigners on a tourist visa travelling to India mandatorily have to give a two-month gap before they can re-enter the country.

... and the 6-month hasn't been that strict - 12-month visas have been fairly easily available for the last couple of years.

Why ask me? I can't think of anything worse than OH smelling of curry, or any other food for that matter. Is this company serious??
Bad enough coming out of a restaurant with clothes smelling of oil or food. At least smoke has been banned.

Panaji, June 27 (IANS) Tourists caught at rave party sites in Goa could henceforth be forced to do community service, an official said Monday.

Superintendent of Police, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Ashok Thakker was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Goa Police drug awareness programme launched here.

‘Right now, the programme we are working with involves students. But tourists could also be included in the future,’ Thakker said.

The NCB as well as the anti narcotics cell (ANC) of the state police have taken a leaf out of the Maharashtra Police’s book by roping in Pune-based Muktangan, an NGO specialising in drug de-addiction and rehabilitation.

Muktangan was instrumental in getting more than 80 college students do 150 hours of community work after they were caught at a rave party in a farmhouse near Pune last year.

‘In Pune, the community programme involved students, but we could try out the same programme for tourists here, because you get a lot of them here. We must rope in the ANC and the NCB for this purpose,’ said Sanjay Bhagat of Muktangan.

Goa is a hub of rave parties along beaches like Vagator, Anjuna Morjim in north Goa and Palaloem, Agonda in the south, where drugs are openly sold and consumed. Raves are heavily attended by foreigners as well as youngsters from Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore, which are an overnight journey away.

Now take notice, you have all been warned!

if you haven't seen it anywhere consider the 180 days as given - 180 days seems to be a universal period in many countries - for instance - canadian 'snow birds' or folks getting away from the cold canadian winters going down to the states can stay for 180 days - anything more than that period requires a (long term ) visa. exceeding the 180 day period also has tax implications.
