NCP asks two Goa ministers to resign
2010-12-17 00:40:00
Last Updated: 2010-12-17 00:48:08
Panaji: The Nationalist Congress Party, which is part of the ruling alliance in Goa, tonight asked two of its ministers to resign from the Digamber Kamat cabinet.
NCP Goa unit president Surendra Sirsat said that Revenue Minister Jose Philip D'Souza and Tourism Minister Nilkant Halarnkar have been asked to resign from the cabinet.
Sirsat said that the party has initiated an inquiry against both the ministers, who were reportedly huddled in a meeting with some Congress ministers on Wednesday night.
The resignation is sought to secure that the inquiry is impartial, he said.
The two ministers had panicked on Wednesday after NCP high command passed on the message to Chief Minister Digamber Kamat about dropping of one of the ministers from the cabinet, to accommodate NCP legislator Fransisco Micky Pacheco.
The former state tourism minister is likely to be inducted in the cabinet by next week.
NCP sources stated that both the ministers have refused to resign and have said that they will be visiting Delhi to air their views to the senior leaders.

What can you do if there are no tourists ? Ingos starts tomorrow night. My friend has a stall there and he has been working all week to get it right for the night, bless him...!As for the Fleece market in Anjuna, even the Russians are fed up with it and that's saying something......! The powers that be up on the plateau, Porvorim, are banking on the Japanese coming in droves next year to fill the gap left by the Brits and other Euros, i keep wondering what drugs they are on because i would love to try them...getting a little fed up with Tuborg and chips.

Declining tourists (Herald letters|).
Declining tourist numbers
Jon Jons, Calangute
Goa suffered last season from a decline in tourist numbers from Europe. This time, the suffering is more. The voices of people cry out to no avail. They come and bring the hard currency which provides Goan families with income for many years.
One visa fiasco after the other has made them fed up. While other countries welcome foreign visitors, India is just the opposite.
Tourists are also fed up with taxi drivers who charge double the rate. When will Goa follow the rest of India and make taxi meters mandatory?
Power cuts are another issue, that fail constantly. Why are more and more buildings allowed, when there is insufficient power? There is constant spitting and urinating. Rubbish is dumped everywhere, when facilities are available, for collection. Goa is actually going backwards at an accelerating rate.

Sound slike a great job pulling a cart along the beach, especially at high tide. Where do you get the application forms? I do not think that the beach will smell like a fruit market, more like a cattle market, as they will come down in even greater numbers to eat the left overs.
