Now that really takes the biscuit - real scientific ingenuity to think that one up!

It is nice to know that someone can see the wider picture and its implications, but I fear that it may come too late as many of the long-term stalwarts have just simply given up on Goa.

Sify Home>>News>>National>>Wendell to design for Goa's tourism security force?

Panaji, Oct 5 (IANS) Goa's soon-to-be launched tourist security force (TSF) might be patrolling the beaches in uniforms by renowned designer Wendell Rodricks.

Swapnil Naik, director of tourism, said Wendell had been formally approached by Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar for designing the uniforms of the several hundred strong force comprising of ex-servicemen.

The force has been roped in to patrol the beaches and other places of tourist interest in Goa.

'The minister had requested Wendell a week back to design suitable uniforms for the security force. We are trying to get the force operational by the end of this month,' Naik told IANS.

'We are currently in the middle of recruiting the ex-servicemen with the help of the Rajya Sainik Board,' Naik said.

While Wendell was not immediately available for comment, this will not be the first time that the celebrity designer known for his minimalistic approach, will satisfy the Goa government's 'haute couture' needs.

In the 1990s, Wendell had been roped in by the Congress-led state government to design 'citizen friendly' uniforms for Goa Police. The Wendell-designed uniforms comprised blue trousers and white shirts, complete with a fringed palm on the arm, were a refreshing departure from the more staid khaki.

But they were discontinued when the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power on the grounds that the new set of clothes, especially the white shirts, were impractical and difficult to maintain in a tropical environment.

Currently only the traffic and tourism police departments within Goa police are allowed to wear Wendell's togs.

From IBN News :-

Rajasthan, Goa to market its tourism products mutually
PTI | 05:10 PM,Oct 04,2010

Panaji, Oct 4 (PTI) Rajasthan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Goa tourism to promote its tourism products and market its destination, a top official has said. "Goa and Rajasthan have joined hands to promote its tourism product. An MoU with Goa tourism has been signed to market its destinations," Rajasthan Tourism development corporation's General Manager J P Pathak told reporters in Goa. The tourism officials from Rajasthan are in Goa as a part of their roadshow to attract more tourists to the desert state. Pathak said that the MoU basically speaks of a marketing tie up between two states. "Whenever people come to Goa, they will be informed about Rajasthan and whoever comes to Rajasthan would be told about Goa," he said. Rajasthan attracted 14.8 lakh foreign and 283 lakh domestic tourists in the year 2008 which was 20 per cent more than the year before, he said. "The state's popularity is primarily owing to its incredible tourism products, its rich heritage, its forts, palaces, lakes, colourful and lively fairs and festivals, golden sand dunes and rich wildlife," Pathak said. Rajasthan which had coined slogan 'Padharo Maro Des', inspired from outstanding and immensely catchy traditional composition of rustic charm from the heart of the villages, has now adapted slogan 'Rajasthan Calling'. "The campaign is held in 19 cities across the country including Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangaluru, Patna, Kolkatta, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Chandigarh.

If I understand lakhs correctly, Rajasthan attracted 1.48 million foreign and 28.3 million domestic tourists in 2008.

It's no wonder that smallfry Goa wants to ride on the tiger's back!!! Gets its promotion done on the cheap!

Commonwealth Games

Will the athletic track be ready for the races tomorrow?

Looking at the work to be done on the track it will be touch and go, workers on the tracks on TV today with machinery, cement mixers, and ladies on their knees with brushes cleaning the dust away

Is that a "wild card" entry in the 100 metres or a potential addition to the "women and children first" construction crews?
