Goa is different from India’
15 Oct: Times of India, TNN, Oct 15, 2010, 12.07am IST PANAJI: Pradip Madhavji, former chairman of Thomas Cook India and a veteran expert in tourism says, "When you talk of India abroad, the words that come to their minds are: congested, dirty, hospitable people. In the case of Goa, you hear the words: tranquil, peace, green, delicious cuisine, and hospitable people" ...

From the Herald letters page:

Unaffordable Goa
Allwyn George, Carmona
The politician-builder nexus is taking us towards an unaffordable Goa. Protests have discouraged big time builders, but Goa’s real estate prices are sky-rocketing. Politicians and sarpanches make hay clearing files and issuing licences. We even see Merchant Navy personnel becoming builders. Government officers run the business in the name of their spouses. In the bargain the poor aam admi is left out in the cold. This government is wholly for the builders lobby. The only hope groups like GBA and others who can keep watch.

Aussie athletes throw washing machine out of 8th floor Commonwealth games
Maybe they wanted to wash by hand!!.

CWG Australian hooligans must be punished
Nelson Lopes, Chinchinim
The Australian athletes might have assumed, that just like sanitation, we have different standards of vandalism in India. The washing machine that they threw out from their 8th floor luxury apartment in the Commonwealth GamesVillage could have had fatal consequences. Australia is supposed to be a civilized nation. India has shown extreme tolerance towards the visitors by not even ordering a preliminary inquiry nor protest. When the news was flashed much after the incident, Australian authorities were in denial mode deflecting the blame on other nations. The citizens of Australia and the government should carry out their own investigations and take stringent action against those who resided on the 8th floor of the apartment block. This behaviour is unacceptable. The External Affairs Minister has assured that the matter will be settled amicably, hushed up more likely. The dastardly attacks on Indians on Australian soil and our mild response might have been wrongly interpreted. If this precedent goes unpunished the spirit of friendship and participation in true sportsmanship is a write-off. The media has rightly assumed the role of a watch dog by bringing the incident in the public domain

In the printed edition of Times of India. Can't see it online.
"New tender for Princess remaoval. The Goa government has invited technical and financial bids from parties interested in removing the grounded River Princess by cutting and removing it. Bids have to be submitted by November 1 and the successful bidder will have to complete the task by June 1, 2011"

Where have I heard that before?

Judging by these pics taken yesterday the sea seems to be doing a good job at doing the cutting itself. You could almost put a house in that hole

Video: "incredible" india

17 Oct: You Tube. Ridiculous stupid airport regulation in Goa does not allow passengers into to the airport more than 2 hours prior to the departure... the hall inside was totally empty and there are only two chairs outside, meaning pretty much no place to sit, put your luggage and relax ...

Tony Wheeler's holiday experiences

17 Oct: Sydney Morning Herald. Tony Wheeler is co-founder of Lonely Planet... He says, “My heart sinks every time I think about getting another visa for India...

Goa’s Tourism Boosted by Russian Tourists 17 Oct: Tourism Review.

Tony Fernandes: “We're Asians, not a bunch of white guys”

18 Oct: Travel Blackboard. Comments made by Air Asia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes during an interview last week have landed the founder of Asia’s biggest budget carrier in the middle of a racial controversy... Referring to the creation of potential rival Thai Tiger Airways, he raised doubts of non-Asian business people successfully running Asia-based businesses. “We’re Asians, not a bunch of white guys running the airline,” he said
