Is it worth contacting someone local to enquire if they can give any publicity to the injustice to foreigners living in Goa, not able to sell their properties or even stay in them for any length of time?
I was thinking of the writer-activist: Venita Coelho, [email protected] or as a long-shot Barkha Dutt, she has a twitter site.

We have recently been given 6 month multiple entry visas in London - the request was for a year but someone from the visa company rang and said we would not get them unless we had an itinery etc to travel throughout the country and corresponding tickets etc - to be fair they send the extra money back and we got our six month visas which started just a few weeks after the last one ran out -

This situation with visas is becoming more & more ridiculous - they seem to be making up the rules as they go along and to suit themselves.

The website clearly states (or words to the effect) - do not buy your tickets until you have your visa. Anyone can type up an itinerary, but is a travel agent going to do this for you?, not knowing if you will eventually buy the trip from them. Many of us buy our tickets online to get the best possible deal - tickets which can't be subsequently changed or cancelled without penalties. Do they think we have money to throw away just to suit their whims.

Also, if they are not giving one year visas, why list a price for them? Some people may want to make 2 or 3 individual trips to India within a 12 month period, each with the requisite 2 month gap of course, but haven't planned so far ahead when making the visa application. How can they justify a blank refusal?

As Prestonjohn said in his earlier post - they blatantly DEMAND everything and give precious little in return!!!:thumbdown:

One rule for us and another for the Russians!

I know a couple of Russians who were here from late Nov until 8th of feb when their 3 month visa ran out. They returned to Russia and were back in goa on 19th feb with new visas. Supposedly got them on grounds of going to a locals wedding on 20th Feb.!

This same couple went to Thailand in february last year for 2 weeks and got straight back in with no problems..

So the way to avoid the two months is to get invited to weddings of all and sundry!!

Hi Steve..its not actually stupid but just inconvenient..they have there own reasons as all governments around the world do. We have to get used to it and adjust our own lives accordingly...its a B nuisance but we do have a choice. Perhaps next month will bring good news..ever hopeful!

This would be a good time for the Indian Government to scrap the 2 Month Out rule, hoping the UK will reciprocate with a change to the student visas.
Tit for Tat seems to work with Visa rules!

I have an American friend,Karen, who has been a permanent resident in Goa for over 30 years. She usually gets the 10 year X visas that Americans were allowed for some unfathomable reason. Talked to her outside Orchard Stores about the visa situation and her status. She told me that she recently managed to get a 5 year X and had to register at the aliens office in Panjiim too ! She was advised not to leave India because of the 2 month out rule.Karen is in her 70s now and was one of the original hippies who came to Aranbol in the late 60s. She has always rented too.The 5 year X visa was issued in Delhi by post. I am still gob smacked that of all the agencies involved in issuing bloody visas that Delhi would be the last place you would find kindness from an official. The whole visa situation doesn't make sense at all. !

Noni - how many days have you been in Goa this season - almost six months or whatever you wanted to have - yes?

Stop listening to rumour and innuendo, wait and see instead of stressing and wondering what will be. There is nothing you can do that will change it so get on with whatever you have to do for the rest of the summer and when next season comes then you will know for certain.
Yes it is bad for home owners in Goa but chill out a little -- please. :):):)

Oh! I am so chilled I have fallen over. Best season ever. Off to Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur for 8 days next week. As you say what will be will be.
It was our decision to purchase, have made the choice not to sell (Yet) if everything goes tits up it is our problem, the same as those who have sold up everything, it was their decision to leave UK.
