Doesnt "sh*t" (not sure of the spelling but suspect its from the arabic "X", pronounced "SH") mean rice in India/Goa, my Mangalorean friends take great pleasure asking if I would like "sh*t" with my curry!

The strength of this forum is that it can deal with views from all directions, be they huggy-kissey or openly agressive.

If you want to gang up on someone who doesnt agree with your views, go to holiday truths.....what a larf, or on occasion, IndiaMike, although they are a lot better these days?

If you want to be involved with a forum (area for discussion of wildly different and contraversial views, according to the Latin) then stick with Expats...........

Bipat, Mrs B.M., Steve with the X visa, Milwart, PJ, JCBrum, Wheatsheaf, Noni, all and sundry.......

Those who seek to squash free and open discussion really need to look inwards maybe? Or not most likely.............

Has any one considered Bangladesh as an alternative to steamy undemocratic Sri Lanka ? I have been there twice and to tell you the absolute truth its a fascinating country.The Bengali's don't intimidate or bother you, like Indians have a habit of doing.Forget Dhaka the capital because its the nearest you will come to Bedlam on this planet.But have a look at Chittagong and Coxs Bazar on the coast.The place is dirt cheep, visas cost £40 for 3 months.And you can fly from Calcutta for less than it costs to travel on rail from London to Brighton ! Its relatively undiscovered by tourists. Dont know about the booze situation though but in the hotels its fine and they are cheep and the Bengalis are desperate for visitors.The strange thing about Dhaka is that it was the cleanest capital city in the Indian sub-continent !

Sounds interesting, but would Bangladesh be one of the countries where it might be difficult for a UK Passport Holder to apply for a new Indian Visa & they might probably only give a 3 month Tourist?

I will be corrected as never been myself, but friends have said its a s--t hole, no decent beaches, very strict Muslim country, alcohol is a no no.
The last time i heard of anyone getting a new Indian visa in Dhaka it was a 6 month multi entry, but that was a couple of years ago.
Keep each other informed, it might be worth a look.:thumbsup:

Butt ....... Muslim / no alcohol are a way of life in some countries, and if you go there then you accept it surely! Is Dubai a ****hole as well?

Yes, it certainly is a ridiculous rule with no logic behind it. The only real reason is to stop anyone from doing a visa run and that just hurts the expats like us who want to live and stay in India. Why dont they take each case on its merits? or have a box on the application form that says 'have you had any contact with terrorists?' :thumbsup:
