Hi Dougie
The Qualifications/training that I put in my app were as follows:
Electrical - ONC & HNC
Mechanical HNC
PLC Courses - PLC 2,5, SLC, Logix & S5
Various Allen Bradley Drives/inverter training courses
16/17th Wiring regs.
inspection & Test (2391)
Basic fitting courses through out my apprenticeship.
Work Ref:
To be honest I listed any training courses/qualifications that I have certificates to back them up with. I was thinking along the lines of the more evidence the better.
Good luck with what ever route you end up taking. Fingers crossed you get assessed very quickly and move on to your visa asap. By the way what area of Qld are you looking at moving to????

Thanks Glapper,
Thats some CV you have there mate well done,
Sadly it looks like i may have to go down the vetassess route then if this is the type of format that the TRA are looking for
As it seems a bit of a gamble to waste more time and money applying through the TRA route only to be declined !!
What sort of qualifacations have you other people got that have been succesfull through the TRA??
Although i may qualify as i,ve been a suprvisor now for a few years and may be able to get a glowing reference off my current boss
Looks like i may also have to make a 'statutory declaration' both for the time i have worked at a company that no longer exists and also for my time on wembley stadium and the London under ground as this was work for various different agencies and would not have anyone to approach for a reference here. (was just chasing the £$£$£ for 6mths and wish i'd have put it to good use then hey
)
Any tips and pointers on 'pimping my application' would be brilliant especially if its first hand.
anyway not going to give up on the TRA route just yet.
Dougie
PS hopefully going south of brisbane GC around coomera looks great but alot more research needed regarding schools and areas ,value for money etc dont mind 60min commute and of course need to be close enough to the beach
.
What about you Glapper where you heading?

dougie, i too come from a very specialized field (which is not listed in any immigration category) we looked at the tra route (a friend of ours was successful this way, but it took nearly 2 full years). we also looked at doing the general electrician route.
firstly, in your petrochem job are you production ops or skilled trades? if you have any quals from an apprenticeship, its a bit easier.
our agents suggested that we went down the general electrician, vetassess route. this gets you an ofstr which can be used for permanent residency applications.
no matter what you do here in uk, you wont get a full ticket until you do some formal, certified training down under. this was explained to me by the course directors of vetassess.
so, i believe the easiest and quickest route is through vetassess.
you apply in writing, send some certified docs, they assess you on paper, and if happy, arrange a practical assessment. this seems to take anything from 5 months (in our case) to 3 months (i've read on the forum)
i suppose its like anything else in life, if its easy for the immigration officers to process, it goes through nice and easy. when its something they dont understand, they have to go and check it out.
it may also be worth looking up wether youre specialist certs (Eex stuff) is recognised in oz.
i know the vetassess route aint cheap
but its recognised and held regularly.

dougie, just read your last post.
coomera is flippin lovely. as a bonus the property prices are stalling somewhat. we looked earlier in the year and it is gorgeous. schools are good but obviously very busy. there are some part funded private schools with excellent reputations to be had also.
if youre gonna be working in brisbane, the commute will not be pleasant. everybody wants to live down there (understandably) and the motorway, although massive, is very busy in rush hour. is it worth it? i said yes, mrs d said no. so, you guessed it we'll be living in brisbane
havin said that 60min drive up from bris sunshine coast, 40min down from bris gold coast
so the weekends are all sorted.
i spose youve found realestate.com.au? coomera, hope island, runaway bay. theyre all lovely. mostly brand new, resort style houses.

2 years through the TRA thats not an option i,m afraid !
The threads i have been looking at the TRA seem the quickest IMHO as the general wait time tends to be about 4-5 weeks before (if you are successful) you can apply for the visa.
As for my experience i am a time served approved JIB electrician so that along with the supervisors position i have been waffling on about, the glowing reference off my current employer , refs of previous employers and a couple of 'statutory declaration's' i am thinking of taking my chances this way as opposed to the vetassess one.
Yeah coomera looks like where i would like to settle but again nothing set in stone yet but really want to be away from all the hussle and bussle socially, not bothered where i work to be fair just need to make some improvements to our lifestyle, hence the move down under.
But like i said if anyone has any info regarding certs etc etc and what they submitted to the TRA that would be great

Hello Dougie,
We are hoping that we can move to Rochdale or surrounding areas because we have some friends that live not far from here - Mind you it could all change once we get over and have a good look around. We will be stopping with our friends for the first few months so we can get on our feet before buying anything.
I'll have a look through my files to see if any might be of any use to you with your application.
