Re: artc
Nothing for it mate only to gain the license a further longer way. I will and get there in the end I just hope while gaining to A license my employer is a little understanding and doesn't try and give me a silly rate. I am also a employer and NICEIC electrical contractor so I am pretty clued in.
I will eventually start up some day again but realize we pretty much need to jump through these hoops.
Anyone trying from uk that has not landed in Australia to validate things expect this, giving them an Australian address will not work as they DO check!
Goodluck
Our records show that you are not currently an Australian resident and that you do not have an Australian address.
When you become a resident of Australia, you must provide Trades Recognition Australia with verifiable details of your current Australian address. TRA will accept the following documents as verifiable evidence of Australian residency, including a certified copy of either:
· a current utilities bill
· a current council rates notice
· an Australian Taxation Office notice letter
· a current residential property lease agreement/service apartment agreement or
· a current bank statement or bank card issued by an Australian bank
along with identification such as a current Australian drivers licence or a current passport with a Australian entry visa stamp/label.
A self-statement stating your Australian address is not sufficient.
Once TRA receives this information, we will be able to process your ARTC application.

I thought I was hard done by getting a fitter artc.
This is a right bitch, realistically to get the evidence of Australian residency will take a couple of weeks then if the application is prepared you are looking at a good couple of months for a result at best without any complications or submissions of further information. Call it at least 3 months before you can even start the process of working towards a licence.
I know people will say they dont care but I think this situation needs to be highlighted so that something can be done about it. Depending on the state you are moving to you are now looking at 15 to 18 months to achieve a licence depending on the availability of courses from arrival!
This is just WRONG!!!!!

Australia thrives on migrants it's another multi million pound business.
If u want to live in oz your going to have till pay for it, mentally physically and the one we hate financially.
Not like the uk walk into this country can't speak English with little belongings and take good jobs away from uk citizens and paid housing.
I think when we arrive the ARTC process is quicker than the past wait from uk applications, I have a mate got his through quite quick.
I do think the ARTC process should be changed on they're application forms the bit about overseas first section, this could have been removed couldn't really be bothered to look as ARTC is frustrating me as a hurdle I can't accomplish as I'm not there yet!
It will be beat lol

Hi,guys. I'm new here.I have a question need help.
Where did you send your ARTC application forms and supporting documents? and how? I want to know about this, because I'm going to submit my case. However I have no idea to do with that though I have read the guidine thoroughly.
thanks a lot.

Re: artc
Dont want to start a new thread, but what am I, spark wise?
I completed an apprenticeship as an electrician with National Smokeless Fuels, working on the installation and maintenance of 110,240,415V & 3.3Kv circuits. Fault finding/replacing motors, contactors etc. Cable tray and conduit systems, swa and dwa armoured, pyro, all different sizes, cable jointing etc.
Left after 8 years and then worked as a Controls specialist with Ford Motor Company, being trained on programming and maintenance of a number of PLC systems, AB, Schneider, ABB etc. Working on VFD, DC servo systems plus Robotics etc, did this for 15 years before gaining a BEng and being promoted to an engineer (not electrical but production). Did this role for 3 years before then moving across to maintenance supervision, where I am now. Phew……
Right if I was to apply to ARTC what would I apply as ????

Re: artc
I'd say fitter given the ratio of installation to maintenance electrical work. But I don't think I'd be looking for an electrician artc if I had the BEng on top of the experience

At 48 I'm looking for a sponsor, (457) and there seems more chance to gain that as a electrician than a production engineer.

Been in Brisbane for nearly 2 months now and from the jobs I've seen advertised it appears that been graded as a fitter shouldn't be too much of a hindrance as there are loads of fitters jobs advertised with attractive salaries to match.

Be aware that you can't apply for an ARTC unless you have been granted a resident's visa. I would suggest that you are more likely to find a sponsor as a production engineer than as a spark. Look on www.seek.com.au.
Currently, there are over 2600 positions for production engineers throughout Australia for production engineers. I would think it highly unlikely to find a sponsor for electricians.

Fantastic, cheers. Off to peer for the course starting 20th of March. And hopefully in Brisbane some time around late August. The house sale fell through so a bit of a set back but if it's anything like the rest of hurdles everything will fall into place when it needs to. How are you finding it? Land of milk and honey/ hell on earth or somewhere inbetween?

Having spent a substantial amount of time in Oz previously, I knew it wasn't going to be paradise, or hell for that matter. It's mostly good. Been quite hectic sorting everything out, getting kids into school, finding somewhere to live, bureaucracy, creating new identity blah, blah, blah.
Just got my permit to train and white card and have only just started to apply for jobs. Had to turn down 1 job a few weeks ago as I had no licence (permit to train) and no cover for the kids.
Most of the jobs I've applied for are getting sidelined with the usual statement "we'll keep your resume on file should an appropriate position arise".
I rang 1 company who didn't respond and spoke to a nice operations director who said they advertised for sparks on the back of a tender they applied for and subsequently, failed to win. Encouragingly, he stated that my application was sound and he wouldn't have any hesitation employing an overseas spark with a permit to train should they win future contracts.
Anyway, I'll keep applying for jobs. Throw enough stones and one is bound to hit.
Think I'll go and jump in to the pool with the kids. Bit early for a glass of vino yet though!!
All the best in your pursuits.

Re: artc
Hi lads im in the process of sending in my artc from ireland, should i include colour copies of all fas fetac certs and paper work and who should these be signed by, Gardai/police or a solicitor? also from reading this thread they are not dealing with applications from overseas but if i was to send my girlfriends sister my application and she reposted it from within oz (sydney) would they accept it?
I will be arriving in oz on june 5th. Also i will have a level 7 degree in sustainable electrical and control technologies which was a further 3 years training on top of being qualified.
Any help appreciated.

When I applied for my ARTC last September, I applied from the UK with no problems. Although I supplied an Oz address on the application form it would have been obvious that I applied from the UK, what with UK stamps and air mail stickers on it.
Recent feedback suggests that the TRA won't process applications until you are in OZ so I would post the application to your girlfriend's sister who can then post it on to the TRA. It would at least give the illusion that you are in OZ. It may or may not work. I don't know but it's worth a shot and worst ways, it least your application would be in and ready to go once you arrive in OZ.
With regards to getting certified true copies , I got mine done by a Justice of the Peace. They do this for free in Scotland, not sure whether this is the case in Ireland, or England and Wales for that matter. If not, I would get it done by a solicitor to be on the safe side, but shop around as some will do it for beer money and others will charge silly money.
Best of luck.
