My son's new passport with the spelling error had just gone back registered mail to Liverpool from the post office.

had to pay another 7 quid approx. Passport service will send a reimbursement form to me and have to send them the receipt!!

Holy that naffing sucks. Had that problem with my Canadian passport - my birth date was wrong. No one noticed and I travelled on it for 3 years before noticing and applying for a replacement

yep really annoying. could have travelled with it likewise but wanted to get it fixed asap.
My mother's renewal had her name mispelled also!!

You would think they would be a bit more careful with such an important document and the cost/time involved!!

Glad I wasn't overseas! Luckily just in the UK.

Agreed! Especially given the cost of the damn things.

I think I'm now at 9 weeks and not a peep. Good job I don't need it urgently!

nope. What's all that about? Maybe some local rules? Or some documentation doesn't look quite correct?

Egypt and India are considered high risk countries so presumably they are interviewing everyone. Given that the FCO supposedly has no involvement with the issuing of British passports any more I'd like to know who will be interviewing you. They may decide to fly someone out especially for the purpose which would explain the delay whilst they gather enough applicants together to make it economically worthwhile.

Indeed. This is the Home Office trying to replicate what is done in the UK overseas after getting rid of all the overseas passport staff.

Why not teleinterviews or Skype interviews?

This may be what is happening but they would still need somewhere for interview to take placed.

But on that premise could someone who is based in UK just phone/Skype the person?
