I know a couple going spare …

But the prospect of Ryanair doing transatlantic routes? *Shudder* They're unbearable enough for flights less than an hour, let alone anything over that. Thank God Ryanair's got troubles of its own. Even O'Leary must know that expansion in a time of recession is a little too risky.

Cheap air fares = Cheap service. Airlines are cutting their prices to the bone and costs to match. Something has to give, as we saw with Zoom. They are unlikely to be the last.

If service, reliability and a few frills is what travelers are looking for, they are going to end up paying more for it, even in the cheap seats. There is always the option of business or first, here you get service and comfort, but it costs.

Currently looking at flights for relatives, always used and sticking with BA. Never had a problem and have always been courteous. We also use them for all of our freight now and have never let us down, unlike other carriers we tried in the past.
