Hi
When you get to Calgary you get your passport checked and then you head to the immigration office which if I remember rightly is on your right once you are through the glass doors.
I am pretty sure you get your bags after that. We were so tired at the time it's all just a bit of haze to be honest. Our son lay down on the floor when we were getting our TWPs he was that tired. Everyone is so helpful - just ask if you need help! The advice of checking the TWP's is good. The lady that did ours was nearing the end of her shift and she admitted she was beyond tired and put my husband down as female. She realised her mistake after printing the doc!
Good luck!

Yes, you go through passport control and then to immigration (it is on the right). Then go collect your bags and then back to customs as they need to stamp all your lists.
We were through very quickly, with a lovely 'welcome to Canada'.
Good luck.

When we came over in 2009, I remember the Air Transat person at the start of the check in line, in the UK went through our paper work with a fine tooth comb. Obviously we had one way tickets and they were covering themselves, but be ware you might have to show them your paper work to satisfy them, so keep it handy in the UK as well as Canada. Good luck.

thanks again everyone.
I just thought...
Will I need to list everything in my suitcases? (I've already packed them!!
We are not shipping anything separately, just putting odd's and end's in our suitcases amongst clothing, towels etc... there won't be anything like food etc, just a few sentimental things, cds, odds n ends for the kitchen, books, etc - we plan to start afresh there hence no belongings being shipped.
thanks again everyone for your advice

I have never had a problem with needles, blood sugar tester etc being in my hand luggage. You can get a letter from your GP to say you need to carry it but I have never had to show it. One thing though, it's best to carry all your meds with you incase your luggage goes missing, plus if you use insulin they say it is too cold in the hold of a plane for it.

Thanks Bucks Family
it will be ok.
I have one more question for y'all and I will hopefully leave you alone
When we are directed to the officer to sort the TWP's out, will both me and my hubby have it done together, or will we see different officers? The reason I ask is I will more than likely carry all our papers, including hubby's for the open work permit as they will all be in one place, but if we have to see different officers, then I don't want to be faffing around digging his papers out for him last minute, if you get what I mean?
Thanks again to everyone who replied.. this forum has been a 'God send' to me over the last few months, don't know what I would have done without everyone's help and support - so Thank you!!

As for processing times that can vary with time of day plane lands, how many landed just before, how many on the plane you are on require the same processing. It will take as long as it takes.
P.S. I wont be the gorgeous officer processing you

The "dog" place is at a different part of the airport. To the OP, if you are hiring a car, then go pick that up first, then drive around a bit and get midly lost, then pick up the dog.
