Are we crazy?

Working for oneself is not all its cracked up to be. The UK and Europe can be a fabulous playground if you have enough money and time to explore it. Probably the same can be true for most so called westernised countries. Mind you we are looking at the move as another part of the spectrum of our lives so if we come back it would just be another chapter. Nothing is forever. As regards London in Toronto it looked like paradise compered to the Medway Towns. Perhaps if we lived in the Cotswolds or Devon we might look at it differently. To us moving from here to Canada is just as difficult as moving to Devon. A complete re-start either way which has to be taken into consideration. If you are relatively happy where you are why move. If it aint broke why try to fix it. It would make the perspective much harder to bring into focus.
Agree with the rose tinted specticles part about Canada, which is why we are still in the UK. Can't make any contact with potential employers, such as BC Hydro or similar in Canada even though been trying for 2 years or so. Had more luck in the States, but don't like the place - to many whacky Americans.
Have a very good job in UK and nice house in Hempstead, Gillingham. Love Canada but have big reservations regarding employment and the culture of protectionism in Canada.
Hoped to have settled in Kelowna, BC but current exchange rate and flat house market has stopped us in our tracks at present. At least we now have 3 years to make the right decision!
Just joined the group for a reality check and to get rid of those rose tinted specticles!!!!!

Hi. We are Sittingbourne Side. I see you use the word protectionsism. Is this to define the closed shop method of employment and the trouble finding it. Could you work for yourself? Nearly 75% of immigrants finally do in Canada. Just a thought. The housing market may settle down in the new year. You always get a slow down and even a small dip at this time of the year. The Canadian Dollar is at the same point as it was this time last year. Seasonal or maybe long term - who knows.
