THE GOVERNMENT IS HAVING TO COMPENSATE PRISONERS, IT IS THE GOVERNMENT THAT FUNDS THE PRISONS, THEREFORE IT IS THE GOVERNMENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO MODERNISE THE PRISON ESTATE TO BRING IT UP TO MODERN STANDARDS, FIT FOR ITS PURPOSE.
**** ALL TO DO WITH STAFF FOLLOWING ORDERS. THIS STATEMENT IS JUST A PIECE OF NONSENSE, COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING.
WE, THE STAFF AND THE UNIONS HAVE BEEN CAMPAINGING FOR YEARS TO ERADICATE THE DRACONIAN AND VICTORIAN PRACTICE OF SLOPPING OUT, BUT DUE TO EFFICIENCY SAVINGS AND BUDGET CUTS THE PRISON ESTATE WAS NOT MODERNISED UNTIL THIS TEST CASE FORCED TO GOVERNMENT TO SUPPLY THE FUNDING.

You seem to have the impression that is was us guards that made the prisoners perform degrading acts.
Yes I actually went into prisoners cells and ordered the prisoners to shit and piss in a chamber pot.

NO I thought not, not a very pleasant experience. You are dealing with prisoners with Hep B, Hep C, Aids, some of these diseases can be passed on through body fluids which are present in urine and shit.
As you have stated you know nothing about the Scottish penal system and the history of slopping out, or how the compensation issue arose, so please but out of things that you nothing about.
Had enough of do-gooders like dbd33 who think they know it all.

You seem to accept that the prisoners have been subjected to degradation such as to warrant compensation. That is, you think pissing in a pot is degrading. You also say that you told the prisoners to do it. If you degraded the prisoners and they have a fair claim for compensation then why can they not come after you for that compensation ? How is your position different from the American guards currently being prosecuted for degrading Iraqis ?
