Not long in from work and the wife was watching Tonight with Trevor McDonald.

It was about the new craze sweeping Britian called "HAPPY SLAPPING"

Well what a shock I got. Was I not sickened by this so called craze by the teenagers in the UK.

They were actually picking people at random in the street, planning their attack, going up the person and slapping or punching them across the face. Whilst they were doing this it was being videoed by their mates on a bloody mobile camera phone.

This made me sick, mad, angry as hell !!!!!!

In one video they actually set fire to a man who had fell asleep at a bus stop
The f***ers who did this were caught and sentenced to a measly 61/2 years in a young offenders institution.

I would do time for any of these mindless a**holes who harmed anyone who I knew in this way.

What is this country coming to. They interviewed a teenager who actually thought it was funny at first, but then he realised how much damage they were actually doing.
As the programme went on, these morons were finding worse things to do to total strangers. One clip showed a person being hit by a traffic cone on the head. This person was knocked clean out.
Another showed a young ned actually running at a man and punching him in the face, again this person was knocked out on the pavement, all of these hideous acts of brutallity were filmed on camera phones.

Another showed an elderly man on bus being slapped about his face

This so called craze is that bad that schools are actually running drama classes in school as part of lessons, on how these acts affect the victims.

I just do not know what has happened in the UK for these f***ers to invent this sort of brutal assault in innocent bystanders.

I have seen most things that would shock the majority of people whilst working in the prison, but this was, christ I dont know what to say !!!!!!!!

I can only say that after watching this programme I have made the right decision to part company with the UK, as it is only going to get worse and the nutters are definately taking over the asylum.

This is really awful, I was reading about it on the BBC website this morning.

However I think the media are partly to blame! They are running programs on it, so there are bound to be loads of copycat attacks!

In one video clip, labelled Bitch Slap, a youth approaches a woman at a bus stop and punches her in the face. In another, Knockout Punch, a group of boys wearing uniforms are shown leading another boy across an unidentified school playground before flooring him with a single blow to the head.
In a third, Bank Job, a teenager is seen assaulting a hole-in-the-wall customer while another youth grabs the money he has just withdrawn from the cash machine.

Welcome to the disturbing world of the "happy slappers" - a youth craze in which groups of teenagers armed with camera phones slap or mug unsuspecting children or passersby while capturing the attacks on 3g technology.
According to police and anti-bullying organisations, the fad, which began as a craze on the UK garage music scene before catching on in school playgrounds across the capital last autumn, is now a nationwide phenomenon.

And as the craze has spread from London to the home counties to the north of England, so the attacks have become more menacing, with increasing numbers of violent assaults and adult victims.

In London, British Transport police have investigated 200 happy slapping incidents in the past six months, with eight people charged with attacks at south London stations and bus stops in January alone.

The Metropolitan police have no overall figures but recorded a number of attacks in London boroughs earlier this year.

Following a spate of random attacks last December on pupils at Godolphin and Latymer girls' school in Hammersmith, west London, police posted extra officers in the area as a deterrent.

But as police have become more vigilant, so the gangs have become more sophisticated, seeking victims in parks or public areas where their crimes are unlikely to be spotted by the authorities or captured on CCTV.

Liz Carnell, the director of Bullying Online, a Yorkshire-based charity set up to combat bullying in schools, said that since the start of the year she has heard of increasing attacks both on children and on adults. But she fears many incidents are not reported.

"In most cases the worst that happens is a minor scratch or a bruised ego," she said.

"What the people behind these attacks have to understand is that technically they are committing an assault. And if they then upload the images on to the internet or a phone system they could be prosecuted for harassment."

What makes the attacks all the more bewildering is that many victims do not realise they have been happy slapped until after the event.

Earlier this month James Silver, 34, a freelance journalist, was attacked while jogging on the South Bank in London. While one youth blocked his path, another hit him with a rolled-up magazine.

When he spun around another teenager - who had been hiding behind nearby scaffolding - leapt out and hit him hard in the head. When he staggered to his feet he noticed the rest of the gang were jeering and pointing their mobile phones at him.

Silver admits that while the attack left his "ego smarting" he did not think it worth reporting. "At the end of the day I was unharmed but it was pretty shocking at the time," he said. "The worry is that while the bulk of the attacks are trivial, some of these youths could be carrying knives."

Earlier this year, schools in Lewisham, south London, and St Albans banned camera phones because of worries that the fad was leading to an increase in playground bullying.

In a comment recently posted on a London community web forum, "Happyslapper2" described the craze as a "joke", writing: "If you feel bored wen ur about an u got a video phone den bitch slap sum norman, innit."

However, in a sign of a gathering backlash, other forum members disagreed. "It's hardly a joke ... it's ****in rude and pea-brained," wrote "slappersidiots".

"If this happy slapping fad continues it will only be a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt," predicted another

Its a hell hole in England, the poor man of Europe interms of policing. I called emergency twice in England and never had the police show up in a reasonable time..glad to be gone. Pity the poor buggers left behind.

I just hope it is a craze and as most crazes start they soon dwindle out.
I know my husband would retaliate if they attackers were old enough, but he would probably be the one that gets proscecuted.
It's just another example of the anti-social way this country has become. Whilst on the subject of anti-social behavior, did you know that it is not a crime to have a bonfire at any time of day? I always though you couldn't light one until 6pm for some reason.Our thoughtless neighbours had one burning form 4pm on Weds through until about 1.30 am Thurs and then re-lit again at 2.30pm on thurs. We couldn't open windows, hang washing out or let the children play in the garden, because of the smoke bellowing into our garden. It was a nice sunny day i might add. I ended up ringing the environmental health people as i thought this was anti-social behavior, only to be told that it was perfectly leagal to have a bonfire whenever one wishes, as long as the smoke is white it's seen as unharmful. I was dumbstruck. If stupid laws like this exsist then stupid members of our society will flout them without any regard for thier nieghbours. All adds to the demise of our society if you ask me.

Could'nt agree more with your comments.I found myself in a un familiar rage watching the documentary. I would,nt p**s on that chav scum if they were on fire but we can ultimately blame the system for the escalation of such crazes. Without suitable punishment I dread to think what the UK will be like in 10 years. Bring back public flogging and hard labour!?!

This is the whole problem: these idiots know that they won't be punished for their 'fun', whereas if their victims defend themselves, they will be punished. Self-defence is basically illegal in the UK these days.

I'm not talking about defence as such, discipline for children as seems this day kids just do what they want, call people what they like and have no respect for anybody or anything.

How can you discipline children these days? If they kick the cat because it's 'funny', and you slap them so they can see how they like it, you'll be the one who gets in trouble... the kids know that they can do whatever they want with little risk of punishment, because they have 'rights', while the victims have none.

Discipline does not have to be about smacking children, although personally I cant see the harm in the occasional smack - never did me any harm!

But I have friends who's kids are extremely well behaved and respectful - just been brought up well, again with occasional smacking.

This country does suck though, like you said too many rights for the criminals and sod all for the innocent victims. :mad:

Of course it does. At the end of the day, if a kid is _determined_ to misbehave, sooner or later you have to resort to smacking them, or admit that you have no control over them whatsoever.

You might like to believe that all kids are happy fluffy bunnies who will listen to reason when they do something wrong, but the reality is that a sizable minority are not. If parents aren't allowed to keep them in line, then they'll soon learn that they can do whatever they want without any effective punishment... and then we end up with a society like the one we have today.
