This is so true. So many foreign workers have been laid off, Alberta needed them but then just dumped them all with no help what so ever.

Strange thing is that there are still Expos and Immigration companies persuading people in the UK,amongst others,to come to Alberta-they don't make it clear to people that there is no help here if things go wrong through no fault of their own.

Fortunately/unfortunately, this is Canada, not England. Those on TWPs ought to have known the risks. Those on PR visas are able to obtain another job.

I appreciate that the above may sound somewhat harsh but, the reality is, the prospects in most countries at the moment are not great.

Yep, if you come here on a TWP you need to be aware of the risks............I'm here on TWP and it is a nervy time awaiting CHC to get processing my PR application.

You can get EI, if you've contributed enough, but thats it.

It doesn't seem ethical to actively encourage people to move their lives here then in a few months time push them to one side.

The processing times for LMOs and TWPs mean even if you find another job you have to survive quite a while without income.

The crazy thing about the situation is that there are jobs available that citizens and PRs aren't applying for so surely it would be in the best interests for everyone to speed up the process, that way people on TWPs are contributing tax money rather than draining it?

The current economic situation is a blip, Canada and Alberta still need people to fulfill the work force requirements over the coming decades.

I don't think ethics enter into it, if there is no work you have cut back or go out of business completely.

Tough as it is to accept employers are not in the business of providing welfare.

It's not as if employers deliberately enticed people here in order lay them off a few moths down the road, no-one saw this recession coming.

Perhaps in hind sight we should have but we didn't and unfortunately a lot of people are paying a very heavy price for that lack of foresight.

It's not the employers, like you say they have a business to run after all,it's the government.

There are employers looking for workers and there are workers looking for jobs, speed the paperwork process up for TWPs & LMOs,everyone's a winner, even the government as they can collect the income tax off the earnings!

Agree totally with you. Speed up paperwork for those who are in and can find jobs.
