Things Are Getting Tight in Alberta.

Don't know how you're doing,we arrived in Alberta June 18 2008 and I got laid off the beginning of March 2009. I'm on a TWP so it was tough to find another employer willing to get an LMO,after calling/visiting/hounding people I found another employer, the LMO was applied for March 26,still waiting for a reply.
The guy above seemed to be sailing close to the wind since he arrived here.
After reading it I guess things could be worse for us,all we have to do is try to get through this tough time.

Fort Mac is nowhere like it was last year. Put it this way if you want cheap "toys" look in that area as even the rig pigs are getting cut back due the low oil prices and have resorted to selling things off cheap.

Gee thanks HeadingNorth and here I am on a TWP with no job and it's looking less likely by the minute.
Would go and scoff some chocolate to cheer myself up but Canadian stuff is naff!

Trust me,I really know how you guys are feeling.
The first week after I was laid off I was given loads of contacts to follow up and found plenty of jobs to chase, but the minute I mentioned LMO the employers kept telling me they wouldn't be looking for LMOs "in the for'seeable future" and these companies last year were doing everything to recruit guys from the UK. I called the head office of one company in Winnipeg who told me that they could help me with an LMO for their Edmonton place, made an appointment for the next day, when I called Edmonton the next day day to confirm my appointment they told me sorry, head office got it wrong we will not be looking at LMOs until 2010! Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions up one minute, down the next.
I persevered, found a job and am now on that familiar waiting game for a positive LMO and then the seven hour plus drive each way to flagpole to find out if the IO is in a good enough mood to grant me a new TWP.
Keep at it folks something will show up.

My Wife said if I'm home any longer we'll be getting a divorce!
I applied for a job in Calgary that would mean staying there all week and a four hour commute each end of the week-that company said that they would only employ people who live in the surrounding areas.

Namo Tasso Bhagavato Arahato Samma Sambuddhasa. Buddham saranam gacchami, Dhammam saranam gacchami, Sangham saranam gacchami.
I mention Buddhism as opposed to Catholicism because in Roman Catholicism, one is prohibited from divorcing.
But people need to go work there and get Koodo Mobile to make an ad,
Ft. McMurray is getting the overtime bulge. Trim their overtime, and come work in Ft McMurray!

Some guys we have up there are on decent rotation - but we have filled all our positions up now. Our main construction manager is on a Mon-thurs rotation with flights up and back down.
