Its the same in the US and you can actually talk to someone without having to make an appointment at least a week in advance. I wouldn't call it 1970's, just better service.

Same as here then?? No bullet proof cages or even glass that I've ever seen, let alone microphones. The only place I've ever seen that was central London.

I can't remember banks where you didn't have glass for the clerks to sit behind, perhaps at least 10 years ago?

Maybe it depends on the area, although we are not in London

Is it? You'd never know.

Maybe it's all relative. Maybe it's just teens, after all that was who the comments were actually about.

When I told someone (not known for their dress sense) I was moving to Canada, they said "Oh I like Canada. They don't care what they look like."

When I was living in London ON and had visitors from Wales, they said you could actually map the change in hairstyles and fashions the further you moved from Toronto (or Queen Street West).

I must say, I love my Canadian relatives but they don't have dress badly. I'm stocking up on the Top Shop before moving...

I don't know about a time warp but there's just that something about Canada that lacks a kind of professional approach to things.

I'm not quite sure I'm being fair in saying that but it's like how the road layouts work here. Inadequate slip roads on and off of major highways and poor road markings.

That terrible situation of how at traffic lights pedestrians have the walk sign even though traffic has the green light to turn into that road.

I've lost count of the times that I've turned into a road and found it completely closed due to roadworks. There's no warning, no diversion signs. Nothing, it's just closed. Find another way if you can.

Although I don't miss them, no M.O.T tests. Here in Ontario it seems like madness to just test a vehicle every two years for emissions but nothing else. There must be a lot of rusty death traps out there.

The frustration I feel as has already been mentioned of terrible online shopping. Amazon.ca is a poor version of the UK one for example.

Poor consumer rights. All of this nonsense of sending faulty stuff back to the manufacturer instead of the store after a very short period of time.

The complete lack of competition for your money. Phones, internet, car insurance etc.

Too many to list I suspect.Time to take a trip back to the UK I think Frank....

Technology in the UK is ahead...Cell phones,TV, Vehicles, Internet services etc.,

The assumption that petty crime is a fact of life has not reached Canada yet, Speed Radar Cameras, CCTV everywhere in the UK.

Many people still attend church regularly in Canada.

Politeness and consideration are commonplace in Canada still.

People in Canada just seem to have more time and respect for others.

Canada is less "dog eat dog"

Of course some of this depends on where you are in Canada... Personally I hope our bit of Canada can hold on to the 1950s as long as possible.

I totally agree. My boys are obviously safer here than in other parts of Canada and neither of them have any intention of even visiting the UK. They found in 2006 when they last visited that it was just 'too full'

The younglings here don't walk around with shaved heads. Quite the opposite.

If you want to trick or treat in Canada you make the effort and dress up, adult or child. And only expect sweets. I remember kids in the UK going around just begging for money.

We have 4 extra weeks of Summer time compared to europe now. Above all, that is one good reason to live HERE

My local Lloyds had glass partitions as long ago as the early 90's as far as I recall (my mum worked there and they had a nasty robbery, even with all that) - UK bank staff have been communicating with me through screens and silly microphones for years .... mind you, our local Woolwich (until it closed down) was a completely open concept ....

lack of cctv cameras on every corner, which is a good thing.no big brother watching down on you.
lack of choice ie car insurance, telephone etc and i am in sask and its all government run unless you live in the big city were you have rogers to choose from.

the mobile network is very poor and my 2 year old mobile phone hasnt worked since i left calgary in june and wont work for another 5 years according to most of the service providers i have spoken with.

internet shopping, forget it as you will pay more for shipping than the actual goods!!!!!

postal service is how slow, even from america it can take a month.

this is just a few i have experienced but again this is canada and its a pleasure to be here.

no rat race
