Garry Point's located at the eastern foot of Chatham Street. It's basically the mouth of the Fraser River on a big grassy peninsula. There are small coves of sandy beach here - a great summer picnic site. Pajo's Fish & Chips has a location here which is very popular. The sunsets from Garry Point are beautiful because you can see out of the Georgia Strait to the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and even views of Mount Baker here are spectacular. Also, the wild lupines that grow there are very pretty when in bloom!

Gilbert Beach is located along Dyke Road between southern foot of Gilbert Road and No 2 Road.

London Heritage Farm is across the street (which is kind of interesting)

The only problem is that the Fraser River is used for industrial purposes further upriver, and the current is very rapid, so you wouldn't use the beach for swimming. Sunbathing, picnicking, enjoying the views, watching the boat traffic, etc.

Richmond: flat, below sea level, OH & I call it the Bermuda Triangle cos we always get lost there , big Asian community, possibily the biggest in the greater vancouver region, Richmond night market & other good shopping, condo towers, good schools same as anywhere in the LM....that's all I got since I don't live there. Now with the Canada line it has easier access to DT Van and the airport....speaking anecdotally, I have friends who've considered Richmond and then ixnayed because they were concerned about themselves and the children being in the minority, they were looking in the built up DT area around the Canada line stations, not sure how true it is/relevant it is to you.
Steveston I've never been too, but it seems popular with young families.

Steveston is nothing like the rest of Richmond. It was a Japanese fishing community years ago and there was a cannary there - now a museum me thinks. It's a nice spot with a fisherman's wharf type vibe. Nice walk along the waterfront and some neat heritage buildings and stores.
It might be a nice spot to live, not my first choice but might be alright.

Which, with breathtaking irony, is now called the the Britannia Heritage shipyard.
There were dozens. Only one left intact and, as you say, it is now a museum. Well worth a visit.

For those that don't know the history, in WWII the Canadian government rounded up all of its citizens with Japanese names and interned them in concentration camps in the interior. Not content with with removing this "threat" from the Pacific coast the Government also confiscated all their property and sold it to other citizens. The Government kept all the proceeds.
At the end of the war these people were offered to choice of going to Japan, or to be resettled on the government's terms. Japan didn't want them as they weren't Japanese so, having no money, possessions or property most ended up being resettled as farm labourers on the Prairies.
It was all done in Britannia's name, but is not exactly a glorious heritage.
which is the home featured in Obaachan's Garden?
