I think 28 is a bit late to do this as it'll be difficult to start again at that age. I would consider your financial situation carefully and there is quite a lot age discrimination here.

I'm obviously totally over the hill, then:ohmy:
I'm 38, OH 43, kids 7 and 9. Perfect timing as far as we are concerned. Any earlier and I wouldn't have had my parents to help out with the kids in the early years. Any later and the kids would be in secondary and would be much harder for them to make the move.
We are far more financially settled now, have major life experience behind us and a level head...none of which I had 10 years ago.

Fair enough but its going to be harder to recover the money you'll lose with the move. I suppose if you are going to take early retirement, which I assume given your wish to move to White Rock that’s your plan, then I'm sure it'll be fine. But unless you are going to transfer within an existing company, the hit you'll take with seniority and the loss of pension credit doesn't seem worth it to me. I doubt at your ages, you'll be able to recover, that's all.

How?
Salary potential much more now than 10 years ago.
We are both full time (was part time when kids were young)
Mortgage is relatively less than 10 years ago. Seemed massive back then, now OK.
Childcare now costs much less now as they are both at school.
Have much more in the way of investments now.

For us, we are happy to start all over if it doesn't work out.

don't rely on the government to fund your retirment, look after yourself first. If the gubmint chips in then so be it.

I first came when I was 21 on a bunac visa, and then became a PR aged 24... I just turned 30 a couple of weeks ago, cant believe it was almost 10 years ago I first came to Edmonton!!!

I've been 28 for quite some time & see no reason why I wouldn't still be once I have PR;)

I was 39, single with no dependents when I relocated to Canada.

Honestly, you can be young one minute then you're not anymore, so don't worry about being too young in your late twenties. I think I was 30 when I thought about moving to the USA with the ex. Luckily, life and business got in the way and we got divorced instead.

I'm 40 now and I've been seriously planning to move for the last 2 years. It took an age to decide where to go and we were leaning towards Australia at first because second husband didn't think he'd like Canada. We hope to go this year and I will be 41. I'd rather be going in my late twenties but apparently they're not ageist in Canada.

We moved when we were 35 and the kids were 3.5.

How do you figure that 28 is too late to start again?

I must admit that I've not seen any ageism - in fact quite the opposite.
