Polysporin cream

Re: Polysporin cream
I've had strep twice in the last year. The second time my fever hit 103 and Mr Schnooks took me to the hospital, it was such a bad case. My tonsils were massive and covered in gunk. Swabs by my GP confirmed it was the strep virus. I was in pretty bad shape both times. A week of amoxiclav got it back under control, alongside a steady stream of ibuprofen to keep the fever at bay (when it wasn't spiked at 103, at least!). My doctor has said if I get it a third time in the next year or so that she's going to refer me to an ear/nose/throat specialist to see about getting my tonsils removed... so far so good, though.

Re: Polysporin cream
That's was potentially a concern. They did swabs both times and both tested positive for strep. After the second one, they sent me back a week later for another swab to make sure that I'd cleared the virus, which the swab confirmed. That was maybe 4ish months ago and I haven't had a recurrence (yet).
My doctor did then have a look at my tonsils a month later, to see what they looked like "healthy". She determined they're larger than average, but not looking worrying in their normal state, hence referring me to the specialist should I have a third bout.
I also did a quick google on the difference between Strep and Tonsilitis, got this summary:
Strep throat, which is an infection due to streptococcus bacteria, is another cause of sore throats and tonsillitis. With strep throat, the sore throat is often more severe and persists. Tonsillitis is a painful inflammation or infection of the tonsils, the tissue masses located at the back of the throat.
Clear as mud? lol.

I think they are much of a muchness ( whatever that means!) both can be damn painful. Strep can cause renal issues in kids particularly and other complications so should be treated. Mild strep throat and indeed tonsillitis caused by non strep organisms doesn't always need antibiotics. Oh, and strep is not a virus, it is a bacterium
