Save that for the pub then. This is a forum intended to be a source of information and help people, not just brits as originally intended, moving to another country.

Its the fact that the information offered is based in perceived reality that makes this site an attractive resource to all-comers. However, a clue to the intended target audience is to be found in the site name I think. |

If it werent for the pub banter many of the long term canadian residents that actually have experience of the country and answer the questions as best they can would no longer bother to visit this site, and it would be immeasurably poorer as a resource as a consequence.

You are quite wrong on that assertion.

And you don't think "The Maple Leaf" would be more suitable area for the typical sarcastic pisstaking and pub-like banter which clearly defines the meaning of being Brittish (and considered rude behaviour by most in the rest of the world) instead of in a thread specifically asking for advice?
They asked about parrots, and like it or not they got some decent answers. Sometimes in life you have to take the rough with the smooth, and sometimes you need to have a slightly thicker skin to do that. No rules were broken, I dont see any "personal abuse", just smart arse parrot related jokes and some well meaning advice to lighten up. This thread is no different to half the threads in the Canada area, in fact in terms of useful information, it may even be better than average. |

For the OP: here are some threads you might find handy:

The fact that people are getting a few jokes in just keeps it at the top of the page and in the spotlight. Anyway, Im done discussing it. |
Re: Parrot to Canada
As iaink already touched upon, the Maple Leaf is for off-topic chit-chat but that doesn't mean that threads in the Canada forum are always going to stay completely on topic. We don't pre-moderate posts.
Whilst I agree some posts in this thread couldn't be viewed as being "informative" they obviously aren't being made in malicious way, but are instead lighthearted in manner. |

I've long sought to put a finger on the cultural differences between Scandanavians and I know that Norwegians approach parrots, parrot owners and people with parrots on their shoulders with a jollity consistent with that displayed in this thread. The only reference to parrots I can find in Swedish literature (Strinberg, inevitably) mocks them indirectly. I wonder if it's the nature of people from Sweden to expect solemnity in parrot related matters. |

YYZlover : did you get out of bed the wrong side or are you on the blob?
You seem to have list your sense of humor ... Shall we send out a search party? |

I know nobody is perfect but I'm Swedish and even I know the difference between brought and bought. Go have yourself a big bottle of wine and chill out with Bomber  |
Re: Parrot to Canada
It was a faintly idiotic question and it received faintly idiotic replies. If the OP was a) serious about immigrating to Canada or b) really wanted to know, she would have contacted the airlines not asked us here. As it was, and, rather unexpectedly, there is some useful advice in amongst the faint ridicule and Monty Python jokes.
And for our Swedish Toronno wannabe.....I've said it before, and I'll say it again, finding British humour on a British Expats website, shouldn't be a shock to anyone.;) Anyway, the snow weasels would doubtless eat the parrot should it ever make it over..... |
