I work in Burnaby (i'm a police officer). Not a whole lot around the area where the hospital is. There are a number of apartments and houses within walking distance though but not much else. It's an average area with few problems. I should imagine a 2 bed apartment would be around 1100 or so and a smaller house around 1300-1400. Metrotown is where all the cinemas, restaurants, shopping malls are but would be more expensive - not too far from the hospital.
Burnaby is very central and BGH (Burnaby General Hospital) is close to the highway and Canada Way and is within walking distance of the Burnaby/Vancouver border, so it's easy to get to from downtown (and no bridges
)
Feel free to hit me up for any more info about Burnaby or Vancouver.

I am a UK nurse who has been offered a job at VGH however nmy husband who is a police officer cannot get work in Vancouver without permanent residency so we have been informed. Did you come from the UK as a police officer or apply from inside BC. Do you enjoy it and how do wages/housing compare. Would be very grateful for advice. We visited Vancouver in Nov 08 I liked the hospital and the job offered but without work for my husband life will be very difficult for us and our 3 children. Regards rugbymum.

hello hope you dont mind me breaking into your message but I really need some help & advice. I am a nurse working in the UK & have been ofered a job at VGH so far so good. However having had my medical and applied for my visa and CRNBC clearance I have now been stumped by a request for me to sit SEC assessments on mental health & obstetrics. As a critical care nurse with 13 years post reg experience it has been a while since my basic training. |I have to fund the travel accomodation etc for the assessment and if the SEC assessments show a lack of knowledge in these areas I will have to sit courses at kwantlen in surrey. as a mother of three with a husband in tow it will be impossible to travel & stay in BC for a course in order to then qualify to take the CRNBC. So I need to ensure that I am succesful in the SEC can anyone offer any advice? Has anyone out there sat the tests in obs & mental health. Would appreciate any advice, kind regards rugbymum.

We are still looking at few accomodations in North Burnaby. Any suggestions as to where to look for apart from craigslist. I don't know if you've heard about vancouversider but they haven't got back to us.

Would it be best to ring those phone numbers on craigslist if we're interested on something?
cheers

And do be careful if responding to an advert on craig's list. 99% are genuine, but there are some scammers who will take your deposit then disappear. Make sure a) the place exists and b) you have a proper contract (The Residential Tenancy Branch have the official contracts) and c) the person you are giving the money to is the owner or the landlord's agent.

Desertfox, we're looking to sublet our place for the summer. It would only be available until the end of august though. It's in north burnaby and reasonably close to the hospital. Carrie (3 bells) can vouch for the fact I'm real and not a scammer! :-)
