Thank you, not been all plain sailing we've had our ups and downs but we're getting there and think we've been lucky that things have come together nicely guess not always same for everyone.
We've done our fair amount of research but never enough, guess life what you make it and think we are a lot better off than some that go out with little money to be able to survive those first few weeks/ months. Hope your move goes well too, i'm off out there for two weeks in September to see hubby missing him so much! All be worth it in end though. Just hoping sale of house goes through ok, as first time buyer so should do. Then I can wrap things up here and head of to the Canadain SNOW! Again something just have to deal with, lifes a challenge and we all like challenges be boring otherwise. :thumbsup: Wish you and your hubby well too. IMHO i'm not sure that your husband loves Canada more than you, it may be the fact that he see's a brighter future for you both in Canada, a new lease of life rather than the monotonous dreary life that England has to offer.

I guess was very bitte when started this thread an maybe said things to quickly before thinking, which I know now. Although through doing this have been given some very helpful information. I'm sure all will work out an understand your comment fair point. |

Canada is a huge, variable place. Canadians are no different to Brits. It's either too hot, too cold, too much rain, not enough rain, too much snow, not enough snow. |

Hey us Brits love to moan we're know for it, end of day we're only human never be happy which makes us want better things! Nothing wrong with that.
Looking at it as a new adventure now I've come to terms with moving, just to begin with so much to deal with, but been dealing with it one step at a time and sure I will get there in the end. Sure loads done it before and sure loads in future will too. Just going to enjoy the experience as I go along. Sure there will be more updates of highs and lows, but as said us Brits love to moan and I'm one of em! |

Well finally hit Regina (albeit 14 days), first impressions not as bad as expected. Hubby found nice area to live an close to shops for me to walk to an on bus route to town as I don't drive, well not yet (although being encouraged to have lessons an take the plunge!).
Ok so Regina not London but think that is what we are trying to get away from. Seen few sites seen been here an happy with what I've seen. Can only go by my experience an seems ok so far although going to be sad to have to go back to UK so quickly as feel I'm beginning to settle in, but needs must an hopefully house will be sorted shortly so I can come back out. Hubby settling in nicely to job which is great as company had bad write ups but seems fine, he's met some good people both English an Canadian an seems happy so far with shift patterns an they seem flexible for him to change them :) to suit his needs. Loving the new truck too seems everyone has them an sure will need it for the bad weather which I'm sure will arrive sooner or later! So all need now is to complete on house back at home hand in my notice an job done! Then onto my next task of finding a job here, although hubby says don't have to work, but feel be good for me to make friends too so even if part time it'll be start. So hopefully next chapter of our lives will start shortly out here in Canada, all very odd at the moment but sure we'll get by an look forward to the future :) |

We moved out over 4 years ago. Edmonton first, then Regina and now Calgary.
While in Regina, we bought a house in Moose Jaw, the friendly city. I cut my grass twice last year as the neighbours cut it the rest of the time. And I cleared the drive once from snow, again the neighbours did it! When we moved over, I was the only wage earner and I didn't take home much more than you quoted. We bought a house, new cars, went camping in the Rockies, bbq'd 12 moths of the year (at -30 that's quite the experience!). Although we did well from the sale of our house in the uk, your money will go further here. I will say that while the people of Regina and Moose Jaw are fantastic, there isn't enough to do round about. It's as flat as you can imagine, fields and fields and fields of crops. We moved there with a purpose, and if you're capable of using it as a springboard to get to a bigger centre by burying your head for a while - its worth it. What we experienced in Saskatchewan isn't representative of the rest of the country, Regina is a booming market at the minute, you won't have a problem getting a job - might not be in the field you practice in but it'll allow you settle in Good luck with your decision! |
