Move to Regina
My husband has recently been offered what he seems to think is an amazing job at loblaw.
Am I wrong not to go as I've a house two cats, and a fairly well paid job in London. Would my lifestyle be better in Regina? Are we going to be able to survive on one wage (roughly $73,000), as I'm unable to get a job as I'm a PA. Any thought as I'm loosing my husband who seems to love Canada more than me. |

Regina lifestyle won't be better, just vastly different to London so it depends what you want out of life. Good luck :) |

Your last sentence shouts the loudest to me, and I think you'll answer your own question soon.

So just to clarify a few points if you move to Regina; 1, you'd lose the very good job you love 2, you'd be in a new country with no friends or family 3, you'd be on your own much of the time 4, you may be "house bound" over the dark winter months 5, your marriage is potentially a little shaky right now I would imagine you could get by on that wage though. All that said, you might love it. It could be the best thing you ever did. Only you can know, once you live there. A VERY different lifestyle that you need to figure out if you'd be happy with or not. |

Thanks for advice, guess I will definitely be staying put.
Thanks You haven't really given much info so my assumptions on reality are just that. A main question is, are you happy to drastically change your life to be with your husband? That should also help form a decision. |

Oh don't decide based on my posts. Just use them as part of your thought process.

I think I decided without looking, my husband said this evening no matter even if it don't work out in Canada he'll stay there, so guess I need to make up my own mind, but to be honest he's made it up for me. So awful but life for him will go on, just will take me bit longer I guess

$73K is a decent wage out there but please reassure me he isn't a truck driver. |
Re: Move to Regina
Let him go if its what he wants and move on with your life, just dont let him come back when it all turns to shit.
Really sorry about the situation you are in,,,good luck |

Re: Move to Regina
We moved to Regina Beach 5 years ago and had only been to Niagra Falls about 10 years before.
You have posters on this site who like to put Regina and Saskatchewan down. Yes Regina is vastly different than any other city, but I love it. Not being able to drive is not an issue as the bus service is good, but you really need to drive if you live out of the city. You also need to both be on the same page as immigrating is a big step if you are only half-hearted about it. But it sounds as if you had your mind made up anyway. Good luck  |
Re: Move to Regina
Has he tried to persuade you to come with him? From what you've said it rather sounds like he doesn't care about what you think, feel or want. Would not be a good start in a new country.
Maybe an absolute clean break is what you both need, even if you didn't know it before? |

Yes he is going to be truck driver, why are they badly treated I'm really worried now.
I must say, $73K seems rather high for the job. Is he quite sure that that's what he'll be getting? |
Re: Move to Regina
And he better get an iPod/pad because the radio is absolute shite.

Re: Move to Regina
I can only go by the workings out on contract. Just think that what we are earning between us in UK gives us comfortable lifestyle, an wondering if will be the same out there. I know UK not best place to live but can think of worse places. Guess only time will tell.

There are those on here much better qualified than I am to comment on that. I was more thinking of the rather disgusting winter climate in Saskatchewan and the soul destroying nature of spending his time driving through a frozen wilderness for days on end.

So does the coldness come at a price we think heating costs here expensive roughly on our house gas an electric roughly $105 a month, how would that compare to a long cold winter?

We have a 1200sqft home and Gas is between $100 & $150 per month and electric is the same, in the winter in the summer it goes down to about $80 - $100 per month.

That seems more expensive than here but guess u have lot colder winter. $105 is our combined gas and electric. Then our water would be $52 a month.

I don't necessarily have to live in a big house, just one we can afford at a reasonable price. Be able to pay the bills an have a little bit of money left over to have some fun that's all

Re: Move to Regina
hmmm let me think London or Regina..really like asking the question Kate Moss or Nora Batty..that alone makes me question your husband's judgement..it would take a whole lot more than $73k (which isnt that great) for me to even look twice at Regina or anywhere in Saskatchewan (and yes i have been there)..makes even Edmonton seem cosmopolitan.
