"American" wouldn't do. My other half is French Canadian and identifies herself as American, which she is.
As a Canadian (prior to moving to the UK!!) I refered to them as Yanks, maybe its because I was a Canadian that had actually left the continent more then once in my life I dunno.. but I always used the term Yank to refer to USA citizens too.

I also liked the fact that it rhymed with the singular of a word that rhymes with Banker... I thought it a very appropriate description of the greater masses of USA population who didn't even know where Canada or their own capital city was on a map

Yes thats gone a bit quiet now, the aussies must be asleep or at work, i don't know what the time is over there.

When I was living in MTL, it was 18 hours or so difference from Canada to NZ, which I put it to 6 hours before our time the day after, relatively easy to remember... west coast of Canada to UK.. PAH too much math!!
