Also try Brewers Yeast you have to take it for a few weeks first though for it to kick in.
Bounce dryer sheets were also recommended by a Canadian friend of mine and she swears by them. You rub them over your skin and they keep away. I put them under the cushions of my patio furniture. They have to be bounce though the other brands don't work.

I had rellies bring over some "Antisan" (sp?) which is good!
There is stuff here called "After-bite", which is a clear liquid in a 'pen-like' appilcator, but is messy and stinks to high heave (of Ammonia, I think). That seems to work reasonably well.
Edit to add: I have a problem with the Deet based repellants, because of the risk to human health. Very dangerous stuff. I certainly wouldn't put it on young kids; but now with the threat of West Nile...it's a case of rock and hard place....

How come you have got 9 Karma boxes after only 4 posts, it took me nearly 500 posts to get mine? They are a bit like A levels, too easy to get nowadays.
Back to the OP, try using Avon body lotion, I understand that works. I cannot remember what it is called, something like "Oh so softly" or similar

Benadryl capsules work - it says on the packet to take 1-2, but that doesn't work for me, I have to take 3. Only problem is they leave you really zonked out! The Benadryl cream isn't as good and the After Bite ammonia stick is rubbish.
