IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi all
My husband has received an email from IMP, after Orla at UK2NS sent his resume to them for us. The email asked for him to clarify some basic info, e.g. expected salary, timescale for moving, and also asked what would be the best time to call him for a telephone interview. I've done a search on here and read some interesting info about IMP generally, as well as one person saying they also received an email like my husband's, but never got a call! I am trying to remain positive that he will get a call from them, and therefore am asking for some advice. They are also over in Leeds in Nov for the Expo so we are hoping he will get an interview arranged for then. I would like to ask if anyone has any experience of a telephone/face-to-face interview with IMP - what sort of questions should my husband expect? He has worked for BAE Systems for all of his working life (13 years), so has not got much experience of interviews at all! I have worked in recruitment, so can give him general advice, but am lost when it comes to aerospace and what they might be looking for! NB. he has applied for an aerospace mechanic position, he works as a pipe fabricator at BAE. Hope someone has some advice to offer.... Thanks, Janie |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hello I have also received the same email from IMP. My background is a little different but they basically wanted the same information. Don't want to scare monger, but I researched IMP on the internet and it said that about 300 of their employees had recently gone on strike due to unhealthy work conditions. So I am a little unsure what to do. We basically wanted to know the same as you. If anyone is/has worked there then any information you could give would be helpful. Including...Housing cost, Pay scales ect....
P.S IMP also had an advert in the Sun on 16th Oct. 2008 |

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi there,
it's normally my wife that post on the forum, but thought it better coming from me as I'm the one who's been offerd a job with IMP and the one who's visited the site. As an Aircraft Engineer for the last 18 years I've had the chance to work in some of the UK's best equiped and cleanest working environments as well as some serious sh*t holes. IMP has a strong union led work force that has to comply with the union desissions, so if the union says out - then it's out they go! After getting the chance to take a tour of the different work areas at IMP I can honestly say that I've seen a hell of a lot worse - and I mean a hell of alot. The work shop is - well a work shop and the rest of the hangars are of a good standard. If I thought any different I wouldn't have accepted a job with them and be in the process of trying to sell my house to get me and my family out to Canada. Their are lots of A/C companies in Canada looking for good engineers from the UK, but I'm happy to join IMP. Hope this has been of some help and if anyone has any more specific a question please feel free to PM me/my wife!! Mark |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hello to everyone who has replied to my message so far, it's really interesting to hear what you have to say about IMP (and yes, I also have read about the issues they're currently having which has made us a little dubious about working conditions). My husband is still waiting for the telephone interview to take place, should be this week.
So now I have posted this message, I believe I will be able to PM those of you who offered to give more info... Thanks Jane |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
So that I can PM those of you willing to answer my questions I need to reply so here is one.....

Richard Looks like there are quite a few on here now who are either due to start with IMP soon, or hoping to get through interviews! We have had some really useful information from people about the interview process, perhaps you should give people some indication of what information you are specifically looking for so they can help you too. My husband has the telephone interview this evening, so we're keeping our fingers crossed for that. Will let you all know how he gets on! Jane |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi again.
Yes seems like there will be quite a few going over. Has anyone had quotes for removals yet ? we've had 2 so far and both were far apart. one for £2000 and the other for £4000. This is for a large 3 bed house. If it helps, we've had quotes for flying our dog over.....air canada seem to be the only airline to use. will cost including crate, vet bills, customs and flight roughly £400. will post move info as I get it. |

It was definitely relaxed, as you suggested it would be. My husband was interviewed by two people - one from HR and one technical guy. They were both really nice and he found it really useful as well, as they told him all about the process etc. They were really impressed with his skill-set and experience, but he does not quite fit the description of airframe mechanic which they are advertising for. But they said they were really keen to try and get him into the company somewhere, so we're waiting to hear back from them. They suggested a couple of options so we're hoping one of them comes off. Thanks again for all your advice everyone, will keep you posted! Jane |

Hi Richard,
Thanx for asking, my hubby's interview went ok we think. They have asked us to fly back to the uk for a face2face interview, they even want me to go is that normal?? As everyone said it was just a casual interview very relaxed, interview lasted for about an hour he has told us to register with the Nova scotia relocation firm so i'll do that today and that's it really just got to book them flights back to the uk. Catherine  |

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi my OH was interviewed beginning of October and we still have heard nothing. We have a friend currently working with the company and have constantly been asking if this is normal as to be honest we are getting a little worried. Our friend said to hang on in there.
I think its because looking at this thread that the company are still conducting telephone interviews. If someone has been given a definate to the face to face interviews please let us know. |

Hi Andyjojake Don't worry the HR are a little busy at present trying to locate suitable people. I suggust you send a polite email to Cherie Cruicshank or Melodie Smith and ask her if there is any progress on you file. they can look you up and advise on any action. Don't worry if you have the experience you will be called forward. For everybody's info IMP will be recuiting at the Leeds Immigration Show. I am not sure of the show dates but somebody on here will post the dates. I sugguest that if you are interested in employment take a CV and give it to the staff at the show. regards Winston [email protected] [email protected] |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi all
Just to add on from Rob, the Expo in Leeds is on the 22 & 23 November.....if I remember right, the tickets are £15 each. Richard |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi all, I had my interview on the 5th Nov, it went well. During the phone interview they asked me to come to a face to face maybe on the 29th of Nov. in London. But I have not been given the times and location. I am assuming they are still trying to set everything up. Fingers crossed.

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi all, has anyone who is due to have a face2face interview been contacted yet from IMP about times, date etc? they haven't been in touch yet and it is a week tomorrow until the Canada Expo 08 in Leeds!?!?:confused:
Regards, Rob. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
SODS LAW!!
Bloody typical at the mo, apply for loads of jobs over the last 3 months, and NOW get people calling me wanting to schedule interview etc, "pop quiz hotshot!" what to do now, i really want the IMP job, having my house valued next week and people coming out to quote us happy to move to Canada and clearing out the house of crap, but i've now come to a 3 way junction, 1) We all go to Canada if we can afford it 2) I go on my own for a year 3) We scrap the whole idea (boo hoo) if we cant afford it!"?!?!?! ALL ADVICE WELCOME!! Regards, Rob. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Not sure of your whole situation but I would swap England for Canada any day and twice on sundays. If you stay in England you will always wonder what if and should we have gone. NS is great and working at IMP is Ok. It won't turn you into rothschild but it pays the bills.
Grasp the Nettle and strike out!!! If you come on your own it will be as expensive as if you had your family with you anyway. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
BAD NEWS BAD NEWS THE JUDGES ARE NOT COMING TO NOVA SCOTIA!!!
We had our house valued today and oh my god not enough for what we need to settle mortgage and debts etc!! really really p**sed off and annoyed at the mo!!! so gonna have to let IMP know tomorrow 18/11/08 hopefully they are gonna be recruiting again in 2 years time (or will hold my job for a few years, but cant see it some how!!!), in which we are intending to start this dream all over again, thanks to all who have given us advice over the last few weeks etc, i hope and pray all your dreams come true, bloody british government and flipping world economy lol. Regards Rob and karen Judge. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
On the Job Front I suspect IMP will need people for years to come. They are expanding rapidly and have an aging workforce. So fingers crossed we may see you in nova Scotia yet.
Good luck and keep smiling:) winston |
