Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
I went to the Expo 08 at Leeds today, and spoke to Melodie who was representing IMP. She appeared to be very intersted in my aviation background, and if I had my cv with me, actually offered me an interview for this coming week.
So it is with interest that I have stumbled across this forum and have noted the posts in this thread. First question is "why the secret pm's " about any interview techniques, and secondly, there seems to have been, or there may still be some unrest amongst the British expats who are currently over in Canada. Can someone please in the "know" either clarify the above points or put the matter to bed. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
hi sir stampalot
here here to what you're saying.i had my interview back in feb and have had nothing but good and positive feed back from imp,the only thing stopping me from being in canada and an employee of imp is that i can not sell my house ,i have even dropped it 25 grand and still no movement. i am going to the expo in leeds tomorrow just to say hi and to let them know that the only thing from stopping me from being there is the house,i am also fed up with the negative replies about imp when no one can come up with an honest answer. they and when i have been in contact they (imp) have been understanding and helpful, dave |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi Dave
I may be stating the obvious, but why are you selling your house? I am also a home owner, but my plans would be to find employment in Canada, then rent a house over there and see what happens. I have lost most of the equity in my house since the "credit crunch" so I would not gain anything by trying to sell. My plan would be to rent my house in the short term, and if for any reason Canada was not for me or my family, then I would at least have a place to return to. |

[QUOTE=Sir Stampalot;6999955]Hi Dave
I may be stating the obvious, but why are you selling your house? I am also a home owner, but my plans would be to find employment in Canada, then rent a house over there and see what happens.QUOTE] To answer your preivous post first, there are many expats working at IMP. Some are management, some staff and some on the shopfloor. Which ever you contact will give you their slant on working for IMP from their experience. Because there are so many expats this site is monitored by IMP staff. So as people have said PM's are not secret thay are just private and people at IMP will give you their opinion in answers to your questions, they just do not wont the world to know their opinions. You should not base the decision on whether to move to Canada on other peoples opinions either it is a decision for yourself and family based on your research. To anser you other questions, if you rent out your house in england to will have to declare the rent as overseas income on your Canadian Tax Return and pay tax in canada on that income. In UK you can offset the rent against your outstanding mortgage for tax purposes. I am not sure if that is permissable in Canada you will have to research that before you take that decision. Regards Winston T |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
hi sir stampalot,
where my wife works, she sees everyday what happens or can happen to rented property,ie, rent not being paid ,the house trashed, if something goes wrong you have to sort it but your in canada not easy, the letting agencies that we have spoken to want 10% plus and all they do is nothing,if there is a problem they let you know,no one in to rent your house you still have to pay the mortgage, and the rent or mortgage in canada becomes expensive ,so with the wife and i the only option is to sell,we have dropped it a lot but will still make some profit which will be our deposit and other necessities,as regards to coming back to the uk,it will work in canada life has got to be better there dave |

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Hi all
Has anyone had the face to face interview yet and if so how did you get on? |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Had a face to face interview for a shop floor position last week. The interview was very relaxed and the guy asking the questions was friendly, seamed to know exactly what he wanted, and was completely upfront about everything. As long as you explaine all your experiance properly and dont try to bullshit him you should be fine, one of the best interviews Ive been on.
My only worry is that he compaired Halifax to cornwall. Im single and 25, so I could handle Newquay, but the rest of my life in Penzance could be an issue. Obviously Im not after the bright lights of London, but I wouldn't mind a few drinks and a club on a saturday night. Anybody know if theres much around or if everybody is tucked up by 10pm. Thanks |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
thanks for that.when did you have your telephone interview.im worried cos on friday i will be having a telephone interview but i want to be in Canada atlest mid December.and how long do they take to process a TWP?thanks inadvanc

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
hi marry,
had face to face interview on sunday and it went quite well i think i find out this if i got the job. there is no way u will over there this year, the hr lady gave us a prediction of about 6 months. this is to allow for paper work, lmo and twp. it takes 8 - 12 weeks for the criminal record check papers alone. hope this helps and doesn't dishearten u. |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
I hope you mean next Dec. I rent in England so Im ready to go soon as, but the application for the Visa takes between 8-10 weeks. So im hoping for Feb-March time. There was no technical aspect for my phone interview as the guy was off sick, so it was all about the HR side. As I said though, its all very relaxed but professional. If you have an airframe tech background, wouldnt worry
|
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
oh.8weeks!.
|
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
i wont be here in 2weeks time.i will go to Canada and find myself another job if thats the time frame.

Not sure where you got the info about criminal record check from. If you go acro.com you can get you criminal record certificate in 3 working days. You dont need these though until you arrive in Canada, They are not needed for your work permit. However you will need 2 on arrival for yourself and one for your wife or partner and one for any children over 18. Hope this helps |

IMP offer a relocation package of $11000. Also the hourly wage is approx $21.00 per hour Hope this helps As Poface says the starting wage is about $20 per hour:ohmy:. This amounts to a take home of about $600 per week. This is not much by UK levels but is about twice the NS average wage and is about the average for trade jobs in NS. You can live on it but life is slightly more comfortable, if you OH works, or you do a bit of overtime. Sorry my PM was to late for the interview but its all go here and Friday night is beer night:thumbsup: If you have and more question or you need any help let me know. |

Its not the best wages in the world but it is fair for Nova Scotia, however the work permit gets you here a lot quicker than PR application and there is a relocation package as well. You know sometimes the best thing to do is to give them a call, their HR dep is realy friendly, and will allay most fears over the phone. There are benefits as well although not quite up to what other firms offer, you get 80% medical and dental plan for the family, but holiday allowance as in all of Canada realy is poor. I came to NS with a tidy sum in the bank, and already 3/4 the way though PR so IMPs offer was good for me it got me here quicker, but I would advise anyone coming here not having thought about Canada before dont do it on a whim, the process overall is expensive, we have been here a year and are just begining to settle financially. Not trying to put people off just do your homework is all. And in answer to the nightlife there are areas that are lively (better than or as good as Newquay) and areas where you can get away from it all it depends on what you want realy. |

My husband has received an email from IMP, after Orla at UK2NS sent his resume to them for us. The email asked for him to clarify some basic info, e.g. expected salary, timescale for moving, and also asked what would be the best time to call him for a telephone interview. I've done a search on here and read some interesting info about IMP generally, as well as one person saying they also received an email like my husband's, but never got a call! I am trying to remain positive that he will get a call from them, and therefore am asking for some advice. They are also over in Leeds in Nov for the Expo so we are hoping he will get an interview arranged for then. I would like to ask if anyone has any experience of a telephone/face-to-face interview with IMP - what sort of questions should my husband expect? He has worked for BAE Systems for all of his working life (13 years), so has not got much experience of interviews at all! I have worked in recruitment, so can give him general advice, but am lost when it comes to aerospace and what they might be looking for! NB. he has applied for an aerospace mechanic position, he works as a pipe fabricator at BAE. Hope someone has some advice to offer.... Thanks, Janie The good old days, i hated every second there :p Rich |
Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice

Re: IMP AEROSPACE Interview advice
Went to the interview, all good, nice and relaxed with friendly people, took the job:thumbsup:, really excited money seemed pretty fair for ns, holiday was poor but then you cant have it all. Had to call to say won't be coming after all.:curse::mad::curse:, selling our house has been hard and wont clear the outstanding debt,A brilliant opportunity has slipped through our hands.
Thank you Mr Brown:curse: |

He finds the union part hard to deal with if they go on strike YOU HAVE to do it its really not worth trying not to... BUT you will NOT get paid. 10 days holiday can be really hard. You will be told that you can work overtime to get christmas off and paid, As he was told by the lads on the first day it NEVER happens no one has ever managed it :0( If you want to PM me any questions I will get him to reply, all I know from a "wifes" point of view is we are leaving because I want my husband back!!! He has been so unbelievably unhappy with work that it spilled over and he just became really unhappy all the time, we have been planning this for 4 years thought we had covered everything but he didnt think a job could ever affect him so much and it really has! now he is going back to BAE and is already his happy self again!! we now have to sell our house though  and the market is slowing here. |
