Re: How long did it take for you to secure a job?
We came over on a TWP, so no issue, and he still works there. He's got a fairly specialised job though, so to be fair, if there's a company that employs people in his role, most would take on another person if they can.
In 8.5 years, all I was able to get was crappy retail jobs, and not one of those for 5 years now. I've not applied for a lot since having children though, but haven't got anything either.

We are thinking of going there on a holiday visa and try our luck.

Project Engineer for Oil & Gas. The interview was with the company I worked for in Aberdeen but I had to resign from that job it's a long story. Sorted now though.

I've immigrated to Toronto twice, both times with prearranged employment.
I've also immigrated to the US and to Germany under the same circumstances.
HTH.

I built up a network using linkedin and emailed and phoned companies. Came over in March to do a recce and meet people. Had some tentative offers and then one firm offer. Accepted the firm offer and then had to wait till September to get my LMO and came over on a Temp work permit. It doesn't take that long for some people to get an LMO so don't let that put you off. Not being in Canada is not really a stumbling block if your willing to put the effort in to network, contact people and make a trip out.

I am sure you will get a job sooner rather than later. Good luck, Andrew!

Always try to stay in touch with your connections and try and make more as networking is a bigger thing out here.

I live in Alberta and received my spousal open work permit 3 weeks ago today. I have had 2 interviews between then and now and today was offered the job I wanted.
I will be working in admin for a huuuuuge investment group, great pay, great perks (3 weeks paid holidays and 1 paid Friday off a month in winter, 2 in summer), great benefits. One very happy expat
