Thanks for your advice. The only thing is hubbies head office is closer to St Albert way so think it may be too far.
We will have a good look round all the areas when get there.
If anyone has any other advice of any other areas that may suit please let me know!

St. Albert is supposed to be 'the place to be' and is outside Edmonton, to the north west. Friends of ours moved up there, and love it. Maybe it's too expensive now, too??

I think you're right - Wetaskiwin, which is south of the city, is way too far to commute daily, especially, as gopher said, in the winter months.

What about Leduc Sarah ?

Modern, good spattering of shops, parks etc
Close to the QE2 for zipping up into the city.

The only downsides I can see to Leduc, is you'd have to pick your spot away from the railroad and the airport. But I'm sure thats possible given the ever increasing growth of towns around Edm.

Might be worth looking into further.

Will have to see what house prices are like when we get there. Want to make our new life as comfortable as possible. We have noticed that St Albert is more expensive.

There is a fantastic motor museum, a few fast foody shops and basic ammenities on the scale of a Market town in the UK, I have only driven through and visited the museum so I can't tell you too much OH! there is a New Wal-Mart only opened this year. Sad though it seems when we were looking to move we kind of figured if it's got a Wal-Mart it's a reasonable size and you won't get stuck for goods if your worried about driving far in the snow. We moved to Red Deer TWO Wal-Marts :D :D :D

How about Stoney Plain? West of Edmonton, so it'd be a much easier commute to St Albert. I've seen some really nice acreage properties out that way at a much more reasonable price than other areas around Edmonton, lots of places in the trees, lovely! There are some really nice lakes in the area too and it's an easy drive down highway 16 into the city or to West Ed mall. Also I've heard Morinville to the north of Edmonton (again an easy commute to St Albert) is a really nice small town, although I haven't been there myself.

One thing to bare in mind about wetaskiwin is that there seems to be an awful amount of drunk natives there. I stayed there for a week when I was drilling in the area, you frequently see drunk, staggering natives hitch hiking along the main highway, sitting around the back of motels with brown bags with bottles in, that sort of thing. It has some nice acreages in the area but not a place I would want to bring up children. Camrose is much nicer! I have driven to Wetaskiwin from Edmonton alot and it took me 50 mins, but like was said earlier in the winter it will be a different ball game! Hope this helps!
