Agreed, it's a trade-off. Personally prefer less space & more time.

The office here is in Boystown, along Church south of Bloor. We currently live in the Beach.

I liked living downtown for that. We were on the harbour with sailing on the doorstep but that's no good if you want to have animals.

We stayed in Brampton and just tried to see as much of Ontario as was possible in the time we had. Really enjoyed it.

Mapquest has its uses for sure but I have doubts as to its reliability within cities. Its suggested route from Ottawa airport to my house may be the shortest but you'd have to be insane to go that way. Unless you want a tour of every major bottleneck in the National Capital Region.

Then why Edmonton? Edmonton gets remarkably cold.

Hi Sarah

We're doing the same, we can't afford to live in Vancouver, so need to buy a house within 1 hour's commute. I presume Edmonton is the same, the nearer you are to the city, the dearer the housing is.

Are there any Realtors that may be able to advise you what the area is like?

For the most part no I don't.

It's nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be.

Edmonton Climate Normals 1971-2000

According to this http://worldweather.wmo.int/056/c00621f.htm#climate the maximum daily temperature in December, January and February is 21.4, 17.6 and 23.5. I'd say that's remarkably cold but, if you think that's warm, fair enough.

I would love that, but we chose to have a house for the benefit of the children. I've often lived near to shops in nice areas and have enjoyed that much more than the suburbs! Oh well, we all make choices.

It is nice to have a garden when it's hot outside.

That shows an average daily temperature for January of -11 metric. You may consider that balmy but I'd say that's remarkably cold. I wondered why an immigrant who liked Ontario would think that worth enduring.

...and this is so much colder than Toronto at 25.3, 18.9 and 20.7 http://worldweather.wmo.int/056/c00264f.htm#climate.

If you think that is a lot warmer, fair enough.
