I like cold weather best and I love snow!! We just went to Ontario for a holiday. Also need to go where the work is for my husband. He has a job to go to in Edmonton.

If you think that is a lot warmer, fair enough.

It shows Toronto at 35.2, 30 and 31.6 :

http://worldweather.wmo.int/056/c00264f.htm#climate

which is a world of difference from the Edmonton numbers. Good grief, I know Albertans will argue that they're not rednecks and that the economy is not related to the price of oil but I never thought one would argue that it doesn't get cold.

First off I apologise for posting minimums as daily maximums. Fingers ahead of brain.:o

Secondly no-one is arguing that it doesn't get cold, just that it is not as cold as you like to paint it.

Maybe in your mind mate!
I think the snow is beautiful. You can always stick an extra jumper on. Being cold is better than being too hot!
The weather is not my main consideration when moving to Canada.

We have passed through Wetaskiwin only once, and it does seem a fair trek out into the countryside.
I wasn't particularly taken with it. Had a little bit of a run down look about it in parts.

If you are looking for a 'small' town feel, then it may suit.

I found Millet a bit nicer, (even though it seems even smaller, there are some nice modern housing there) Not much in the way of shops though !

Devon may be a good call (even though it wasn't for me)
Cheaper housing, small town, 30 mins from the Southside.
I found Devon OK in parts. The newer area of housing is nice enough.
My negatives about Devon stem from renting in the wrong part of town, and the fact I found it a bit 'hickey', but aside from that its alright ;) .......really.

If you want a V8 pickup then you'll fit right in !!! :D

I've only been there once (they have a great car museum). Didn't get into Wetaskiwin proper - but from what I saw it just looked like a small town. I think it has a college there, too.

oops - just looked it up - seems it's a CITY! Here's the official website (looks a bit boring - but if you go to "city maps" o the menu to the left, you can then click on "aerial photo maps' - at first it looks like a drawing, but when it downloads it turns into a photo!)

It has real estate, taxtion, and other info on there! :)

Hi,

We have Canadian friends who live in Camrose, they have two young children, aged 4 and 7 yrs and think it's a great place to bring up children. Stayed with them for long weekend and what little we saw we were impressed with. Think you would have to do clothes shopping in Edmonton, had the usual WalMart, Canadian Superstore, Safeway etc. It takes the hubby 1hr 15 mins to get home from Edmonton in rush hr traffic at night.

Hope this helps.

We do want somewhere 'small town' really. But dont want to make it impossible for husband to commute. At the moment i am just sat here in UK looking at the different areas trying to find somewhere as far from downtown livving as possible that is still easy to commute there. Until we are actually there though, obviously deciding on anywhere is impossible.
Thanks for your advice. The only thing is hubbies head office is closer to St Albert way so think it may be too far.
We will have a good look round all the areas when get there.
If anyone has any other advice of any other areas that may suit please let me know!

we used to live close to wetaskiwin and were about 45 mins away from where my wife was training in edmonton... please be mindful that the commute often turned into 1.5 to 2.5 hrs in the winter
wetaskiwin itself is the cheaper neighbour to camrose and does have a reputation with the friends we made in the area as being not as desirable.

Thanks. We have a little girl who is coming up to 4 years old. We want plenty of room for her to play and hopefully some more!
