And for the record, I've been keeping them for 12 years. They are just like part of my family, they're so gentle! Everyone should just love them to pieces, I mean, there has to be something seriously wrong with someone not to love a beautiful ball pyton. He has such a cute smile! And don't tell me anyone's really afraid, they're just putting on like people who sneeze when they come near dogs and say they're allergic! its not serious!

More seriously now: As a snake keeper of 12 years, I keep my baby safe. His safety is my first priority. you may or may not like them and may or may not strike out at him. As it was my responsibility to keep him safe, it becomes my responsibility to keep him out of the way of dangerous people such as yourself who might strike out if you were jammed in a busy bus next to him.

The same goes for dogs. And I've been bitten by more dogs than I have snakes, and the dog wasn't even mine, while the snakes have been lifelong companions.

If you want your dog to travel with you whereve ryou go, I suggest you get a car. As people don't all feel the same and you are responsible for your pets' well being. And that includes not being careless where you take them and when.
very well said - a responsible pet owner will protect their pet but at the same time have the common savvy to not let them leap about on people .... kids or adults!

but jus to let you know it wouldnt bother me if you came an sat next to me on the bus with your python - i confess i know nothing about snakes but i think theyre beautiful an would wanna hold it, and i know you would have to prise it out of my young sons hands!

*grins* snakes are actually very good child pets, especially if said child is capable of taking care of them. They move far slower than small rodents, rabbits, ginea pigs and the like, and are far less likely to bite. I used to have them as a child, and as I said...snake bites: 0. I've also more than once introduced the western hognose to the brownies (girls 7-11 in holland) for 'pet show and tell' and they loved him. They were all surprised the first time that he was so dry and soft.

They are stunning, but I also understand a lot of people don't know how to take care of them, nor have the interest, or are scared. And anyone who puts a snake down someone's neck as a joke should be shot. Pets are like kids- dependent on you. But if you're ever in the area, lemme know and I'll happily introduce your son to Nibbles.

I've answered this one privately due to thread drift.

But yes, that's a whole different rant. Due dilligence before you buy. Adoption is a different game, you can't always predict how big the critter will get, but you need to know its an option.
