Oh yes, everything is named for him. The "Wayne Gretzky Harm Reduction Centre", the "Wayne Gretzky Toxic Waste Disposal Facility", the "Wayne Gretzky Soup Kitchen" and so on.

Can anyone suggest a decent area in Hamilton that would accommodate a family with children aged 1,3 & 10.

Ideally schools within close proximity and Junior Kindergarten

Need an area that is accessible to amenities for people on foot (wife doesnt drive)

looking for 3 - 4 bed property ( anyone recommend property sites to view)

Really appreciate everyones feedback

Siouxie covers this ground often; do a search for her past posts.

Hamilton West End; Hamilton Mountain Central, West and East as far as E26th. If you were willing to go outside Hamilton, then Dundas or Burlington.

It really depends on what you like and what you like to do - and of course what type of housing you are looking for and what you can afford! Rental prices have gone up a lot in the past couple of years.

Rentals in Hamilton usually start on the 1st of the month (60 days notice required for leaving) and leases are generally for a minimum of 12 months. On signing the lease, you pay 1st and last months rent and rentals quite often are reserved a month or more in advance (due to the 60 days notice).

Bus routes: https://www.hamilton.ca/hsr-bus-sche...le-routes-maps

Despite what others may say, transport in Hamilton is pretty good - easy access up and down the Mountain and across the Mountain, bus station downtown with easy changes to other areas across the City. There's a GO station downtown for coaches/trains to Burlington, Toronto etc.

:)

I thought I'd already given you suggestions but realise it was probably too 'generic', so apologies.

With no transport and a wish for walkable amenities, I'd suggest either the Locke Street South/Dundurn area in the West end or else anywhere close to Upper Wentworth or Upper James on the mountain - there's a ton of areas that have amenities. The buses system on the mountain is good, with links across and up and down to the City.

If you can find a 3-4 bedroom house in the Locke Street South area (Homewood, Aberdeen, Dundurn, Stanley, Herkimer and surrounding areas), there's a school that has a good reputation. Locke has small bars and restaurants, coffee shops, health store, antique shops etc., there's a large supermarket about 10 mins cab ride away. There's a village feel to it but it's not going to be cheap and you may struggle to find a house for rent.

Westdale is also an area that is walkable, but you will have to contend with students as it's close to McMaster. Dundas (old town part) has walkable amenities, but again you may find it difficult to find a house for rent there - and it won't be cheap. Around Concession Street on the mountain is another area you could look at.. lots of small shops, village type feel (though not as much as Locke or Westdale or Dundas), a park, school etc.

Upper James has many shops, restaurants, pubs and either Walmart plaza or Fortinos for groceries.

Local House Rentals in Hamilton | Real Estate | Kijiji Classifieds or use www.padmapper.com - with that one, you can see a 'walkability' score on one of the tabs but they are mainly apartments - however, find a house you like (on kijiji) then go to one of the maps on it and you will be able to see how accessible the area is.

Your other alternative is to get a real estate broker to look for you - they won't charge you.

Schools: https://www.google.ca/search?q=junio...i:2,lf_pqs:EAE

If you see a house for rent that you like the look of, could I suggest you drop it in here? I'd be happy to tell you what the area is like - some are better than others (and some I would avoid)!

There are a handful of options on padmapper at the moment, but I think you're going to have to keep your eye on it.

There's a 3-bed going just off Locke St, on Canada St:

https://is.gd/exT362

Which is a little further north than discussed above - but, to be brutally honest, you'd be paying a fair whack more for... *if* something came on the market. It's OK around there, but it's a lot nicer (and more expensive) towards the Aberdeen end.

There's a new development on Dundurn and Charlton that'll be opening soon, wouldn't be surprised if some of those come up for rental but I have no idea how much they would be.

It's ok'ish, though I would suggest if you do want to live in the area only look at roads that end in 'South' and never 'North' or South of Main if possible. It's not an area I would choose to live, in honesty - although there's some lovely houses, the area is known for being a bit rough. A family member lives on FairLeigh North (just along a bit) and a friend lives on Rosslyn North - both have a crack house for a neighbour. Barton is really quite run down; Centre Mall has been updated. The area around the General Hospital (and along Barton generally) is known for hookers.

Delta secondary school is one of the worst - my step son taught there for a while. Scott Park School has closed down, there are plans to build a new one serving a lot of the "North End" Secondary School Revitalization » New North There's a 1 year old 'junior school' in the area which has some good reviews.

Having said all that - generally speaking the area is relatively safe, the people friendly and the area is slowly being 'gentrified' (though the North Enders would probably disagree).. many from Toronto are moving into Hamilton. There's several posts on this website that you might find of use. You can see some photos here (though some of them are out of date) There's a good article on the area here: https://hammerhomestreetphotography....10/31/stipley/ Edited to add, please note that the hammer link contains profanities and adult topics.

:)

I, of course, rushed to the hammer link.

The opening anecdote about Stipley gives the lie to something my neighbor in Toronto, who's from Hamilton, said about the place. He complained about all the beggars in Toronto, saying that you wouldn't get that in Hamilton "ask someone on the street in Hamilton for money and they'll punch you in the face". Perhaps Stipley is upmarket from his part of Hamilton.

I was just looking at the photos for Locke Street South and came across a photo of the house I used to live in - and another of the same place. The OP will see why the area is recommended - there's a real 'village' feel to it.

Another incredible Hamilton neighbourhood: Kirkendall - SkyscraperPage Forum

Ooh that's lovely. Also a great place to do a Rapunzel.

I really like those Heritage type places with the round bits.

What's on the third floor in the round bit? It doesn't look like an extension of the room like those on the 1st and 2nd floors.

It was a small room, accessed by a staircase.. I think one tenant used it as an office (great views!).

It was a lovely house, divided into 4 apartments - I lived on the main floor but redecorated the other apartments (including the one with the turret) for the owner. The only really creepy bit was the basement, which had massive stone blocks and lots of dark places  Apparently someone was killed in the rear apartment years ago.. the tenant swore that they haunted it!
