It's very interesting getting people's views, Myself and OH are a young(ish) couple who work hard for what we've got and where we are now which is why i find it hard to believe that mindless yobs are basically taking over...taking over to the point which makes you not want to walk your dog in the park or go for a drink with friends. I know incidents like what has happened to us can happen anywhere but from looking into the area and from peoples own experiences then it is far less likely that a 17/18 year old kid will think it is "the norm" to pick up and throw not 1 but 2 bottles at a person and seriously injure them.I don't want to bring children up in that environment which is why we are holding off now until we make the move, I hate to think that I am actually not surprised by this and have come to consider that this is normal and happens to people every week-end which in it's own right is quite disturbing! Our city personally i think it is great and particulary now with Christmas is full of things to do and see however these kids that have been dragged up rather than brought up are putting the older generation on edge to the point where you don't want to venture anywhere and get nervous if you see a gang of youths together! Don't get me wrong we're not a shy retiring couple wereby we would let kids like that walk all over us but it has literally got to the point where even we are questioning everything...OH is now not going on his works Christmas night out and I'm just having the meal then going home-It's just not worth the possible bother! :) |

We want somewhere more rural to be honest. Have been looking into Calgary alot however recce is next year-3 weeks there then maybe a week or so travelling :) |

We go out with friends for a drink every other weekend - and the restaurant my son works at has been inundated with staff christmas parties for the past week. I don't know where you live, but that's the norm where I do... :) |

If you truly want to give Canada a go then great, but dont base your move on running away from all of Englands perceived ills, we have a number of our own here too
I think larger urban areas are generally safer than the UK and the chav-lootish crowd are much less frequent. Smaller rural towns are rife with drugs and a long list of social problems. Tred wisely and as already noted, you may find what you are desiring in the UK and wont have to give up friends and family and better telly goodluck |

We have been really researching into emigrating for the past year and a half and due to a number of factors we think that Canada is the place for us! :thumbsup:

We are moving to Canada for some of the same reasons. Not all but some, Im a child protection social worker which means that daily I see the worst side of human life, what I have noticed is that it is increasing at a rate that scares me. some of the children I work with have no social boundaries and the amount of times I have been called a ****** or physically threatened this year alone is worrying. I know that I work with the extremes but when I go into the schools and see how little respect most of the children have for themselves, each other and adults is a worry, some of the schools also have police officers on site most of the time as well.
Like I say although this view can be balanced out by good children and parents which there are many of, in all my years I have noticed an increase in the masses becoming more anti-social. personally I blame the Jeremy Kyle show:thumbdown: |

It's also worth pointing out that if it's liverpool or manchester(culture capital) that you live then I wouldn't raise a dog in those places.
Someone also mentioned Northampton which, simply put would be of better use if they levelled it and made a big car park. It sounds like your emigrating for somewhere more rural. There are rural places in all Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. Have you considered places like Winchester? http://www.channel4.com/4homes/on-tv/best-and-worst/ It's worth having a look at that and researching nice places in England. Granted statistics aren't the most reliable things but then again - it's no accident that Hull, Manchester and Doncaster are on the list for the worst places to live whereas Surrey, Cambridgeshire and Winchester are on the best. Canada is a great country but so is England. Trying to delude yourself that England has "gone to the dogs" because your husband got hurt in Liverpool is a bit like saying Londons rubbish because you got robbed in hackney/brixton/ackford |

Also London is rubbish, I grew up in Brixton it was great but I wouldn't live in London for love or money. why are poeple trying to pursuade her to stay in England? It sounds like she has been thinking about it for some time but this was the straw that broke the camels back. |
