Thanks. It's handy to have a fellow Yorkshireman that's recently done all this :) I would like to get a few more opinions on this though.

Are you being sponsored alone, or are there some dependants in tow?

Just me being sponsored by my wife i'm afraid, no dependants

Yeah i'd double check if anybody else has anything to add but that's all i've done and so far so good (unless i've just jinxed myself)

Exactly the same for me. The wife is sponsoring me while she is still living with me in the UK. As soon as we get the golden ticket she's going to head home to her parents in Ontario and setup a job and things while I take care of the loose ends over here.

After spending a week looking over the forms it's actually seeming pretty straight forward. I'm assuming your wife didn't have to provide any proof of earnings as the sponsorship is only for yourself?

Nope, no proof required so far. Would be a tad silly anyway seeing as though she's earning £ working in London so we've not even given it a second thought :)

Yeah the forms are straight forward although they did bring out some paranoia when we were filling them out. As in "is the answer we've given exactly what they're asking?", type things.

Good luck with it all

So what did you do on the supporting documents section asking for "Option C"? Just say that she is currently living in the UK and therefore doesn't have one? (As I understand it's like a P60 over here?)

God yes. I thought I was going crazy on Friday night -- figured I'd just spent too long looking at the forms! Do you mind if I spend you some PM's in the future just in case anything crops up for me?

All the very best mate.

Yeah when asked to provide supporting documents we wrote a very quick paragraph stating that she's currently living and working in the UK and has done so for the past 7 years so cannot provide any relevant documents from within Canada. Something like that anyway.

Feel free to PM me any time and if i can help, or at least give you info on what we've done, i will.

Good luck

Nicely done. Good Luck!!!!!

And yeah the 10 day thing is a load of pants. 10 days from opening your envelope to sealing their return gives a false impression IMO. Boooooo!!!!

Was hoping you'd chime in :)

Since we are applying for the exact same thing, I was wanting to run the payment process past you. Since we are in the UK, but the application is going to Canada, I assume we pay online?

Via : https://services3.cic.gc.ca/epayweb/Welcome.do?lang=en ?

I also assume these are the parts we pay for :

Permanent Residence
"Right of Permanent Residence Fee" - $490.00
Family Class
"Sponsorship application (per application)" - $75.00
"Principal applicant" - $475.00
----
TOTAL - $1040

That sound about right?

OR do I use the "Spouse and Common Law Partner In Canada Class" one? The "IN CANADA" bit throws me off.

Yep the cost sounds about right to me. Form the screen shot, and as you're applying Out of Canada, you've filled in the correct bits.

I paid online and printed out a receipt (included it with my paperwork just in case) followed by filling out the payment slip within the paperwork.

Hope that makes sense ;)

But the entire form is for people inside Canada (see top heading).

Did you pay on the actual cic.gc.ca, or on some website for the London embassy?

Re: First Steps! UK -> Canada

Oh good point. Has this changed recently or did we make a boo boo?

I know we paid on line but i don't recall seeing In Canada only at the time.

Hmmmmm......You have me thinking now.

I'll go and rummage through all the printouts i have to check.

It is! In the sponsors handbook it claims you can pay online even if you are living exclusivly outside of Canada -- but the online form doesn't indicate it! Either way, they've got my money (one way or the other) so what's the difference!

Application posted.
