Ferry from UK to Canada?

Re: Ferry from UK to Canada?
The OP could drive down to Dover and hop on the Calais ferry. Just south of Calais, take a left turn and follow the signs for Vladivostok.
Next drive up the gangplank onto a ship bound for Anchorage, Alaska. It's a shortish drive from there to Edmonton, just a bit further to Halifax.

Re: Ferry from UK to Canada?
Hi does anyone know if there is a direct ferry that goes from uk to Canada? I’ve tried looking on google but not finding much. Just thinking of taking our car as we could take a lot more luggage than a flight and save money and not having to buy a new car. Any help much appreciate 😊
Note that while you can import a car in - then you have the hassle of insurance and registration in the province you are residing in.

All you need to know about officially importing a vehicle into Canada here: https://www.riv.ca/Home.aspx TLDR: Your vehicle will have to be over 15 years old to be eligible which pretty much makes it not worth it unless its some sort of classic & of value. In terms of using vehicle importation as a way of gaining extra baggage allowance, well yes you can, inasmuch as you likely ship your car in a container which you can fill with other stuff. But I don't think that's what the OP was looking for...

Re: Ferry from UK to Canada?
In the unlikely event that you decide your car meets the criteria for importing into Canada and it is financially worthwhile to do so, there are two sensible options for shipping it. One is to put it in a container and ship that: if you take a 40' container you can fill the rest of it with all your stuff and it all arrives together, so in that respect you can make best use of available space. The downside is that, in the inevitable event that your car is inspected by CFIA and needs to be cleaned in bond, the rest of your stuff will suffer as a result. Once it's cleared customs, your shipping container can be delivered to wherever you want it. If you're on the West coast, it'll arrive by sea in Vancouver and go on from there; in the East it'll be landed at Halifax or Montreal and onwards by rail or road (or both) to your destination.
The second option is to put your car on a Ro-Ro (roll-on, roll-off) transatlantic transport ship. This is how new cars get shipped around; likely it'll sail from Southampton to Halifax, where you'll have to arrange onward transport of your car (either yourself, or via a shipping agent). You can fill your car with stuff, but most shippers advise against it as "some movement of contents may occur during transit" and things may break. And not terribly useful for anyone heading to BC...
But first, as others have said, you need to decide if it's (a) legal or (b) sensible to import your vehicle to Canada. In any event, don't plan on travelling with your vehicle; you'll be on a plane (or, if you're determined to go by sea, on the Queen Mary II)

I hadn't thought of reversing through the drive-through line. That would probably cause a lot more confusion!

I once saw a RHD Mini parked outside a shopping mall in Tennessee. Crappy old Mr. Bean type thing it was as well. It seemed to belong to an old guy and God only knows why he went to the trouble of importing it.

when I was fairly new to Canada and still getting used to things being on the wrong side. I was on the Spadina streetcar going about the same speed as the traffic alongside us. I remember exclaiming rather loudly " blood hell there's a dog driving that truck"
