£150 should get you a nice restaurant meal for 2 in Canada.

We're still waiting to sell, had another offer from someone who put an offer in 3 months ago which we rejected as too low, and still is. I reckon he thinks we're under seige and we'll take anything for it by now, well up his jacksie as they say. I'm jobless, I just wish I were homeless too...

Hope the completion goes ok, then it's off to the land of milk and honey, were the sun shines ever day and all the women always say "yes".

Another 26-year high against the US dollar today.

One pound gets you 2.0165 according to Yahoo at the moment.

Again, tempted to shift a load into USD rather than the CAD which is still mooching around 2.12 (although I acknowledge that's better than 2.00!).

I guess they'll probably say there's no such thing as a free lunch and the rate is as it is for a reason (i.e. the US economy is rubbish and the dollar is a relatively worthless nugget, buy a load of them and you could then watch as the economy collapses and the dollar freefalls further). Or something.

But still. All a financial buffon like me sees is 26 years! 26 years!

a lot of people are calling for parity in CAD$ versus US$ this year. If that happened and you had changed into US$, you would lose out.

Hi Chris

I have been talking to a lot of BDMs for the different lenders, seems that the rate rise on thursday is a stick on, with the possibility of another in sept. All companies putting up their lending rates due to the swap rates. So maybe you will get a better rate in september after all.

All the best Danny

I changed £15k at 2.1189 earlier today, I'm certainly not changing anymore at the moment as the savings interest rates are much higher in the UK than in Canada at the moment.

Hi Danny, what is the current savings interest rate at the mo? We have some sterling in an GBP account here in Canada but I could always transfer it back to the UK if the rate was really good!

Hi Louise

You could take a peak at the braford and bingley international account which is instant access as well and pays 6.1%

I have my stash with Alliance & Leciester earning 6.10%, don't forget that when the BOE increase interest rates again tomorrow this will be in our favour.

HSBC in Canada could only offer me 3.50%

Interest rates just went up, so hopefully this will be good news; some people will sell off Sterling, but others may jump in with the expectation of more rate rises to come.

So they have, lets give it a few days and see if the rate moves closer to the elusive $2.20 that I am hoping for.

Indeed: the US dollar is in deep poo, though the Canadian government seem scared of letting the Canadian dollar get that high.

In particular, the Chinese government seems to have started getting rid of their 'dollar mountain', which should significantly reduce the value of the dollar.
