Does anyone want an IT job in Kamloops?
I wouldn't normally do this but the company I work for is having a hard time recruiting qualified people at the moment.
To cut a very long story short, we are looking for one person who has a thorough understanding of Active Directory infrastructure, not extensive knowledge but the fundamentals such as DNS, DHCP, Domain controller FSMO roles etc. This is a support role and you will be expected to bring fresh ideas to the department on how to improve our current infrastructure. I hope I haven't put anyone off, anyone who has worked in a busy IT dept will do well here.
The second role is in our Integration Team, primarily you will be responsible for analyzing our current systems and being the liaison between our team and Computer security. Don't get me wrong, you don't need to be a firewall expert, just have experience with basic security best practices such as patch management, anti-virus, and any other application security experience.
You will be working for a Crown Corporation who bring in over 2 billion dollars in profit each year, your role will be working in the Gaming Systems group who support & develop the systems that are running in every Casino & Bingo hall in BC.
37.5 hr week, full benefits, start on 15 days holiday, pension scheme, profit related bonus, flexi time available, blah blah blah.
The company is www.bclc.com and you must be legally entitled to work in Canada before you apply.
If you are interested, have a look on their website, the job titles are:
Senior Technical Analyst for the AD person & Senior Systems Analyst for the security focused person.
Any questions drop me a note, salary is anywhere from $54k - $67k depending on experience.
Cheers

I should also add that the Senior Systems Analyst ad says it's Temporary full time, this is for 12 months but the reality is, if you prove your worth you will get hired as a full time. The ad also says it's closed for applications, reality is, no one suitable was found so send me your CV if you are interested.
<snip>
I also want to make it clear that the job description for the Snr Technical Analyst role is horrid, my colleague typed up a good few paragraphs about the role but HR neglected to post it?
If you have real world experience working with Windows servers & core infrastructure you'll be fine. Don't let the ad put you off.
Currently right now the support team is comprised of 2 Brits, 1 Dutch guy, 1 Chinese girl, and 2 locals. Average age is early 30's and we really need to find someone who will fit in well and most importantly, has experience.
Good luck and get your online applications in soon.

This sounds like a perfect match for my skills and experience (MCSE, 8 years of specialising in AD etc.). Even the location is perfect (I've visted Kamloops a couple of times). But for that small, irritating fact that I'm still waiting, and waiting, and waiting, for my medical requests so there is no chance of me seeing my visa for many more months! :curse:
Of course, you could always hire someone who was willing to remote desktop in few a few months.
Still, I find this post very reassuring in that it does at least show that in BC there are some (okay, one) IT jobs available and companies willing to hire people without that prized "Canadian experience".

I think if you're willing to move to some of the less trendy locations (sorry Kamloopians!) then you should be able to find work pretty easily. I know that my husband got his current Tech Analyst position (Prince George based, but working locally) without any IT experience, never-mind Canadian experience (he's a degree qualified electronics engineer, but no-one else applied )
